Back about 40 years ago it was found that many so-called animal rights groups were spending donations on high salaries and advertisement. Very little on animal welfare.

The ONLY group I have never heard anything bad about is the ASPCA.

Thank you for posting this. This is the first mainstream media expose I can recall that addresses HSUS's deceptive fundraising practices, and news of this story has been circulating on some of the dog-related message boards to which I subscribe.
HSUS is behind every mandatory spay/neuter bill out there, even though the American Veterinary Medical Association has come out against mandatory spay/neuter because the procedure does carry potential long-term health risks (significantly increased incidence of osteosarcoma, orthopedic problems and injury, hypothyroidism, spay incontinence, etc.)

HSUS is a lobbying organization, pure and simple.
