Ventura Takes Shots At Torture, Coleman
Star-Tribune ^ | 5/18/09 | Bob von Sternberg

Posted on 05/18/2009 1:08:52 PM PDT by steve-b

Continuing his book promotion media tour, former Gov. Jesse Ventura today resumed his blunt criticism of the Bush administration's interrogation policies and took another shot at former Sen. Norm Coleman.

Appearing on ABC's "The View" talk show this morning, Ventura called the waterboarding of suspected terrorists "torture."

"If this country follows the rule of law -- which we do -- torture is against the law," he said, adding, "I'm ashamed of my country."...

He was less harsh about Minnesota's still-unresolved Senate race than he was last week when he called Coleman "a hypocrite."

"It appears [Al] Franken won," he said, contending that when the state Supreme Court rules on the election results "it should end there."

Ventura also renewed his call for legalizing marijuana, something he advocated as long ago as 1998, when he was running for governor....

I heard him talking to Mancow last Friday?, and Ventura said he was waterboarded when he was a SEAL (or UDT).

a conservative leaning third party so I assume that most of those votes would have gone to Coleman....

Not sure where you got that idea from. The Independence Party is a liberal leaning third party. Without Barkley, it would have probably been a clear Franken victory. Sad but true.

Isn’t Jesse V. an ex-SEAL? He sure behaves like a goof for someone who endured so much and is supposedly so bright. Are his fellow SEALs at all embarrassed by what he has become?

His real name was Jesse Janos, went through training with class 58 and chose to be in UDT 11 instead of SEAL Team, He never set foot in Viet Nam. Never saw combat and is not authorized to wear a combat action ribon. Did one tour with UDT-11 stationed in Subic, then got out.

Those are the facts.

He could have been but choose not to be, cause he didn’t Wanna Bee. Until after he was out and used the title SEAL to promote himself. Pissed off alot of people.

saying he's qualified to speak on the topic because he was waterboarded himself during his Navy SEAL training in the 1970s....

..."I'd prosecute those who did it, prosecute those who ordered it and they'd all go to jail."

And there you have it. Jesse Ventura is calling for criminal charges to be filed against the United States Navy for torturing him in the 1970's.

If waterboarding is torture, then he is calling for this right?....right?

Jesse went nuts about eight months after taking office. he played the role of ultimate outsider, government cutter, free marketer, etc. Then, something cracked and he came out for light rail, made peace offerings to the state workers union and forgot about all those slim down St. Paul ideas he'd talked about in the campaign.
.When he threatened the Strib reporter with physical violence, I knew he had stuck his tounge in the fuse box or nibbled the Brown Acid... Pity; he coulda been a contender.

Remember, Norm had just switched from the DFL to the GOP less than six months before running for governor. Everyone knew what Skip Humphrey was. We just didn’t know who Norm was, and that’s about the best headline you could write about how Jesse won the governor’s job in MN.

Hannity said he likes Ventura and called him a “great American.” Vomit. I’m so sick of SH.

I’m so sick of SH.

I can only take so much of "you're a great American" and "literally".

I agree with you completely on both comments.
That’s what I liked about him initially.
It came down to voting for a dem, a prior dem or the “ultimate outsider, government cutter, free marketer, etc.”
Of course, knowing what we know now...

Hannity said he likes Ventura and called him a “great American.”

That's because Hannity sucks at debating, and knows he'd get slapped down even by idiots like Ventura. He's completely lost on any issue outside of the few talking points that he's memorized. He is not a good public representative for the conservative cause.

Minnesota is a state that should wear a bag over its head.
