BERLIN - A GERMAN worker was boiled alive in an empty industrial-sized soup vat while trying to clean it, tabloid newspaper Bild reported on Sunday.
The 36-year-old, named only as Markus, was scrubbing the 2m-high pot when the lid accidentally closed, automatically starting the jets of boiling water used to disinfect vegetables.
'For reasons we have still not cleared up, the disinfection process started too soon,' a police spokesman told the paper.
By the time the unfortunate worker was found, he was already dead, Bild reported.

Somebody died from being cooked and people think it's funny, or see it as an opportunity to be witty.
Why would you even want to post this kind of thing?
What kind of thing?
Maybe a better way would be accidental fermented in a brewery kettle.
Indeed, it was a tragic event.
It should be hard to believe that someone would do a job like that without securing the machine with a lockout and having another man nearby who could stop the machine and effect a rescue if needed. Then again, I used to watch people stick their hands into 440 volt hammer mills in the factory where I worked. Shame.
What are you, the good-taste police? If you don’t like it, don’t read it. The dude must have been jewish or something.
One would think they’d have some kind of lockout mechanisms and procedures in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening. I mean, I’m all for automation, but to have the thing activated simply by closing a lid seems a bit unsafe.
I’ll bet lunch that some safety measures were ignored in this death. I’m certain the time saved seems pretty minor right now.
Lock-out/Tag-out is essential with machinery - you would be surprised, however, to see the amount of dumb workers who could not be bothered using this system after it has been implemented.

A friend had a company with a large manufacturing line, fairly automated. He said the workers broke down into two sets. Those that were so stupid they thought the work was interesting, and those that were smart and so bored they drank, doped or distracted themselves throughout the day.
Needless to say there are always those who become complacent and over-confident in their work routine. My ex used to pick stray bits of dough out of the mixer (mixed and kneaded hundreds of pounds at a time) while it was running, all the while acknowledging one wrong move and his arm could become silly putty and/or get torn off.
Lid accidentally closed ? may have made someone very mad.
Some companies do order maintenance workers to work on equipment that is operating even if there is a lock out policy in effect. Of course, they will deny that if someone is hurt. Been there, done that, got the injury.
This would also come under confined area entry procedure.
