If your family has been in Southern California as long as mine, you probably have a few quake stories of your own. I certainly have mine.
The Whittier Narrows quake did a lot of damage to my grandparent's house in South Pasadena. We had been trying to move them out of the house and into a retirement apartment but Grandma was resisting. But that quake cracked plaster all over the house and the brick fireplace ripped away from the wall. After that Grandma was happy to move.
