Steele Not Ready to Endorse Crist in Florida [omg. Steele is learning.]
Roll Call ^ | 2009-05-17 | Josh Kurtz

Posted on 05/17/2009 10:30:52 AM PDT by rabscuttle385

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Sunday that despite the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s early endorsement of Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida’s GOP Senate primary, neither he nor the RNC will take sides in the contest until after the primary.

Crist is competing with former Florida Speaker Marco Rubio in the fight for the GOP nomination. Although Crist is popular in the state and most polls have shown him winning the open seat general election easily, some conservative groups have been critical of his record as governor — particularly his decision to support President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus package — and have cast their lot with Rubio.

But NRSC Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) endorsed Crist on the day the governor announced his Senate bid, citing his electability as one of the reasons.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Steele said he and Cornyn have slightly different missions and said the RNC would not take sides in the Florida race until the GOP primary voters had spoken.

“The Senate committee is in a different business — they’re looking to add numbers to the Senate,” Steele said. “Our business is staying in touch with state party leaders and following the lead of state party leaders.”

Wow, a party leader who actually respects the voters.

Also noted that Senator McConnell would not endorse Senator Bunning’s run...what’s up with that? Is Bunning too conservative for McConnell? What little I know about these two guys, I would vote for Bunning over MConnell.

All that means is that Steele is scared of us and is learning to keep his mouth shut now and then. That’s a start.

This is a great opportunity for Florida conservatives to send a strong message to the senate republicans and other supposed ‘leaders’ of the party.

Someone posted Rubio is NOT pro-amnesty like Mel Martinez. Anyone know for sure?

We know Crist is buddies with Mel, McCain, Graham-nesty and other RINOs plus Obama.

I heard Marco on the radio and I liked him but if he is pro-amnesty I cannot be bothered.

Steele and the rest of the RNC need to learn that WE are the Republican Party........not them, they are nothing without us.

One of the FIRST things Crist did as Gov is hold a global warming conference. He is a RINO to the max. friend of McCain, Mel Martinez, Graham-nesty all pro-amnesty RINOs.

Marco Rubio is good but I want to know where he stands on illegal immigration.

PLEASE READ THIS, MR. STEELE--i get lots of mail from you asking for help and donations.

Please CLOSE THE PRIMARIES TO ANY VOTERS NOT REGISTERED REPUBLICAN.

If you do not, all I can conclude is that you intend to see rank-and-file Republicans disenfranchised by Democrats and Independents in elections. Tell me why I should conclude otherwise.
