Barron's: Bjorn, what do you think will be the outcome of the negotiations to curb global warming this December?
Lomborg: The participating nations will again agree to spend quite a bit of money to cut carbon emissions and again achieve virtually nothing. We already tried that twice -- in Rio in 1992, and in Kyoto in 1997. Both of these treaties failed. We will see a lot of posturing, but presumably this isn't about having a lot of environmental ministries or even presidents and prime ministers come out and claim credit for making costly commitments that we won't be able to live up to, and which would barely make a dent in the problem anyway. When I first started in the global-warming debate, I was struck by the fact that the world was going to pay $180 billion a year for a protocol that could at best reduce the temperature by 0.3 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the 21st century. The U.N. estimates that for less than half that amount, we could provide clean drinking water, sanitation, and basic health care and education to every single human being on the planet. The same warped sense of priorities will continue to bedevil us this December in Copenhagen.
Q. What role will be played by the U.S.?
The U.S. is talking about a very low commitment -- maybe cutting emissions back to 1990 levels by 2020. That is much less than what the European Union wants, and certainly much less than what most of the environmental groups want. It is also going to be very, very hard for the U.S. to fulfill even that small promise.

yep, I use air conditioning in the summer and heaters in the winter - very manageable.
The Who - "Going Mobile"
Lomborg is a global warmer, he just believes it is stupid to pay for so little result. No one in their right mind should put any stock in the Global warming theories, unless they have a God complex, or a complete lack of belief in one.
Those who do put their faith in such dreams of salvation, through attempts at manipulating or changing climate are none other than those who would usurp the very mission of God himself and deny the perfection of creation, that God had not bothered to plan for every contingency and every human to be born or event devised by humans on his creation.
Such folk are sadly lacking the faith in higher authority unrelated to the only higher authority they know, Government. The very instrument of higher authority, that was probably directly responsible for destroying the faith they need to weather (no pun intended) the ups and downs, of climate change designed by the creator to regulate the conditions on earth necessary for the habitation of living creatures.
“I know that many Freepers do not think AGW (anthropogenic global warming is occurring).”
It’s certainly not occurring right now. There’s complete consensus that 1998 was the warmest year on record. That means, no matter how you spin it, that the Earth has had net cooling since then.
Furthermore, despite recent alarmist statements from the usual suspects, the last three years have experienced a sharp cooling trend. A couple little publicized facts: sea levels haven’t risen measurably in three years, and the global sea ice extent (northern+southern) is 300,000 square km. OVER the historical baseline. This is most directly explained by the Sun entering deep minimum conditions.
Clearly CO2 isn’t a problem, other than ocean acidification. There’s NO immediate crisis requiring the expenditure of TRILLIONS of dollars, and all of us accepting a lower standard of living.
It’s not even 70 degrees on May 16 here. Yeah, warming ain’t occurring right now. This is downright weird.

Heck, a mere $180B is peanuts compared to what this administration is spending on new stuff..../S
He claims the oceans have risen 2 feet. Can he prove that?
And they are about to rise 6 more and his answer is “build dikes”.
He is absolutely right on priorities. Even if GW is correct there is nothing we really can do about it that will move the needle. So why waste the money, build dikes and save the world with the money you would have spent. There are billions of people out there, and some are geniuses if only someone would teach them how to read.
Gore and co are heavily invested in renewable energy - so this is about protecting their money and making a lot more.
