-snip-

Castro is accused of killing his girlfriend's cocker spaniel with a ball-peen hammer in 2007.

Because he has previous felony convictions, prosecutors say if the 48-year-old Castro is convicted again he could be sentenced to life in prison under the state's three-strikes law.

Well at least you’re posting a non-pitbull story for once. Thanks :)

Sounds like the three strikes law acts pretty well ~ filters the pukes right out of the system.

Hey, I don’t think people should not be punished for committing a crime of cruelty to animals (in such a case as this), but the death sentence or life in prison for it is plain stupid.

I imagine that if convicted and once his crimes are known in the yard, he won’t be there that long.

his past convictions were for assault with a deadly weapon and battery resulting in serious injuries, so it's not like the cocker spaniel was the highlight of his criminal career.

Unfortunately, he only has one life term to give.

Good! and as the mother of three cocker spaniels I think he should have to be hung from his fingernails and be made to suffer.

He is not given life for killing a dog. he is given life for committing three felonies, whatever they were for. Looks to me that the law is working quite well, thank you.

It’s a distinction without meaning. The result is what counts. That’s the “meaning”.

And for me, no dog, no matter what or who or where or how — is worth that, in any case. So, sorry, I just don’t agree with it.

For me PETA means People Eating Tasty Animals. And for me, killing a dog, no matter what, is no life sentence, regardless of what else.

We had a fellow go away for life for stealing a piece of pizza, which was his 3rd strike.

As a fisherman and a hunter, I wonder if some day I could go to prison for killing a deer or fish.

Well, that’s where I start working, politically, to change laws like that. It’s stupid — a pizza, a dead dog... baloney... LOL...

Like I said before, for me PETA means People Eating Tasty Animals — and that includes no life sentences for killing animals.

This man is clearly an extremely violent man. His next move would be to progress in his path to beating people to death. He deserves to be removed from society.

Yeah..., that’s the type of “mentality” that apparently a lot of liberals would embrace (along with PETA) and a bunch of FReepers to boot... LOL...

That sorta sounds like liberal mentality to me. Start convicting people for what they’re about to do — of course, liberals will always claim to know what people are “about to do...” in order to prevent them from doing it... doncha know.

For instance, a liberal says if you have a gun, you’re “about to kill someone” — doncha know... LOL...

Do you usually beat the deer and fish to death with a ball-peen hammer? How’s that working out for you?

I own guns and fish. Nice try, though.

I didn’t say you were a liberal, but I did hear some “liberal” arguments... :-)
