The real reason for hate crime laws is not the defense of human beings from crime. There are already laws against that - and Matthew Shepard's murderers were successfully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in a state with no hate crimes law at the time. The real reason for the invention of hate crimes was a hard-left critique of conventional liberal justice and the emergence of special interest groups which need boutique legislation to raise funds for their large staffs and luxurious buildings. Just imagine how many direct mail pieces have gone out explaining that without more money for HRC, more gay human beings will be crucified on fences. It's very, very powerful as a money-making tool - which may explain why the largely symbolic federal bill still hasn't passed (if it passes, however, I'll keep a close eye on whether it is ever used).

Curious indeed. Andrew Sullivan of all people...
the lefts programmes have consisted on things like affirmative action where even MLK said he did wanted a color blind coiuntry and yet the left looks at color and then discriminates those who are white, christian or just normal.
It says to the black community and other communities that that you are too dumb to go against whites so we’ll give you a job based on color.
Hate crimes is telling us that some groups are to be treated and be given more protection than others.
What happened to how we are all the same, we are all Americans, not Irish and that crap but Americans and we should all be treated the same
The left has so many scams going and the gutless GOP do nothing about it because they might be called a little name by a far left wing loon.
Well I speak up against it now and so be it if someone doesn’t like it, the racist, bigot etc name calling is pathetic and I couldn’t care less anymore if they want to label me any of those as the only people I care what they think about me is my wife and kids.
Hopefully more and more folks speak out now as just sitting there and not doing anything about this is doing nothing
The normo-bashing has gotten out of hand.
I believe the reason is that homosexuals (and a few other anointed groups) are not constrained in any way by political correctness. PC is a device used exclusively on the bedrock culture.
He’s not a fan of the direction the Republican party took in the past decade, but he was a Republican.
Wow! I didn’t know he was a Republican. Thanks for the info!
