Mr Obama fears a backlash against U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Further images purportedly from the 2,000 include one of a naked man covered in excrement with a guard standing in front of him.
Others yet to be released are alleged to show guards threatening to sexually assault a detainee with a broomstick and hooded prisoners in transport planes with copies of Playboy magazine showing naked women open on their laps.
The president had previously committed to allowing them to be seen but changed his mind after senior generals said it could place U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in greater danger.
The images were released in Australia yesterday where they were originally obtained by the television channel SBS in the wake of the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal.
The release comes at an inopportune time for President Obama who is trying to build bridges with the Islamic world.
President Obama earlier vowed to fight to block the release of the 2,000 'inflammatory' photographs showing the abuse of prisoners by U.S. soldiers. He had previously said the administration would not oppose a court ruling demanding the release of hundreds of the classified photos.
This followed his decision to release the U.S. Justice Department memos detailing CIA interrogation methods, such as waterboarding, that he has now outlawed as torture. Aides say he changed his mind on the photos because 'he did not feel comfortable' with their release. He has asked his legal advisors to present a new case to judges saying that making the pictures public could imperil national security.
The White House legal team is now preparing for a June 9 deadline to present its case that it would be against the interests of national security to make them public.

It's becoming clear that Obama has little control over those around him.
Daily Mail has a couple of these pics up on thier site. Have I seen them before in the Abu Ghraib affair? Are the "New" pics the same as the OLD pics?
Here comes the excrement-storm, folks...

“Mr Obama fears a backlash against U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Mr Obama fears a backlash against his administration from the American people for treasonous acts.
Fixed it.

I wish just once they would find a leaker and hang him.

Barry better watch his step before he drops into a hole he can not get out of.

Amen.
I’m simply curious, who takes these photos? Is it just the guys there, taking them for themselves, or are they official? Having said that, with photoshop and similar programs, it’s hard to know which shots are even true these days.

He never intended that the photos not be leaked. This was talked about on FR for the last two days. He was playing CYA, now he can claim innocent on leaking them, and they are out there and his base can slap themselves on the back. No surprise here.

I wonder if there will be a DOJ investigation to find and prosecute the leakers like they did when our supposed spy was outed (Valerie Plame).
I mean the case for the Plame investigation was that it “damaged national security” and this leak may well result in the deaths of US Soldiers.
on second thought, Eric Houlder isn’t really there to conduct investigations unless they are investigations of Republicans.
What a sad commentary on what the Left has made of this country.

Right out of the Clinton playbook. Say you don’t want something done and then let one of your flying monkeys do it for you.
He was voted in and America is getting what it asked for.

Seems like things just got easier for al-Q. They don’t have to hijack an airliner this time. Just photoshop some torture photos and let the rank and file muslims do the outrage thing.

Yep, People here were praising him for doing the right thing but I knew the photos would appear within a week. Sure enough it happens while the democrats are coming under fire from the media.
Seems to be a pattern with the Zero administration. For every crisis they create, another bombshell drops somewhere else to distract from the first crisis.

You’re assuming the pics were not leaked by Barry’s orders. If he openly released them, then he would be held responsible for the results. If they’re leaked, Barry can wash his hands of the consequences.

“I wish just once they would find a leaker and hang him.”
Not going to happen because Obama and his brownshirts are the leakers. Many freepers predicted that they were going to leak the photos instead of ‘releasing’ them and it is happening already.
