Sen. John McCain continues to enjoy high approval ratings from Arizonas voters, according to a new poll, but responses from his own party are potentially worrisome.
Rasmussen Reports shows half of the Republicans surveyed believe McCain has lost touch with the GOP base. Conservatives are even more critical of the four-term incumbent.
Still, three-fourths of Republican voters believe McCain is likely to win the primary for his seat next year. That total includes 46 percent who say it is very likely McCains name will be on the November 2010 ballot.
Among all voters in Arizona, 45 percent say McCain has lost touch with the states GOP, while 38 percent say he has done a good job representing the partys values.

Good to see that Rasmussen separates Repukes and conservatives, as they are not the same thing at all. If Gilchrist loses the primary, he should run in the general as an independant.
The Bastard always wins. There are a bunch of old-men RINOs in this state. Baby boomer wishy washers who judge the current onslaught of illegal aliens from their pleasant experiences growing up with the old school, hard working, family orientated and not having been brainwashed by the public school system that the evil white man owes them something.
He’ll win again.
Didn’t Miss Graham get reelected in SC last year, one of the most conservative states in the union, less than a year after he led the immigration fiasco?
I don’t want him to win, but the deck is so stacked against challengers that I don’t have any faith in the process.
And the other half are buried up to their necks in the "D" hole. Republicans(D).
Conservatives in Arizona must go door to door, if need be, to expose McLame and lay out his BS. RINO’s must be voted out or we’re doomed.
Who are you talking about? Most Republicans in AZ are strictly conservative.
Well, this is one Arizonan who won’t be voting for him. And the only reasons I voted for him in ‘08 were the potential Supreme Court nominees and Sarah Palin.
He’s appalled me for years. The man is only looking out for himself and that’s the way it’s always been. I stopped voting for him (the 08 presidential election being an exception) when he stood up against “big tobacco”. Since then, I’ve been no fan of his.
I’m hoping J.D. might run for McCain’s senate seat.
He doesn’t even know what the party values are.
Not that I’ve seen.
DITTO!!!!!
Name some names of elected Republican officials in AZ that are moderates.
McCain won’t leave the senate until they find him dead in his office. The cops will need crowbars to pry his cold fingers from the desk.
I’m not talking about McCain. I’m asking about the claim that AZ has plenty of other moderate Respublican elected officials. That claim is without merit.
Are you serious? Jane Dee Hull would be a start, up to the current occupant of the Governor’s office. If I cared to, which I don’t particularly, I could put down a whole page for you. Grant Woods, McCain, the list would go on and on.
Jane Hull and Grant Woods are no longer in office.
Jan Brewer is a solid conservative.
I am sorry, but you are ignorant. Or a moderate yourself.
Put up or shut up.
