And when all is said and done, Conservatives will be blamed for bringing this on the state, read that failing to vote for props 1A to 1F.

Good analysis. Remember when Newt tried to shut down the Gov't? The media was brutal with their nightly stories of poor inconvenienced people who couldn't get into national parks and such other gross violations of human rights.

You bring up an interesting situation. Newt was pretty much holding his own, despite the manipulations of the media by the Clinton White House. Remember, it was Clinton who refused to sign legislation. Newt just said, okay, we’re at an impasse then.

The Clintons and the media made it sound like the world was coming to an end. Why Newt had shut down the government! Still Newt remained strong in the face of it.

One Thursday and Friday in the heat of that battle, the media was beginning to release reports that the Clinton White House was going to be active all weekend, since some resolution must be found. The public was being primed to accept capitulation by the Clinton White House.

Newt had stood firm, and now Clinton was going to have to make some token capitulation. This would have set the groundwork for future dealings with the Clinton White House.

Newt was a whisper from total vindication, total victory.

That very Friday afternoon, in front of a camera stepped Bob Dole to say, “We’ve got to put an end to this. We can’t continue to hold the nation hostage.” (Paraphrased)

In less than a minute, Bob Dole had defused the need for the Clinton White House to take action. In less than a minute he had made Newt the villain. In less than a minute, Bob Dole had not only destroyed Newt Gingrich, but the Conservative movement, and to a large extent, the ability for the Republicans to mount a resolute objection to just about anything a Democrat wanted. It was the inception of the “Stick your neck out for Conservatism, and die the death of a thousand cuts” doctrine.

It was one of the most seminal moments since Reagan left office. It scripted the next decade, one which would see Republicans terrified to go out on a limb and take a stand against the socialist, Communist, Marxist, and Fascist stances of the left, on just about anything.

We’re still paying the price today.

That’s what a RINO will do to you. And it’s why I beg the leadership, to politically cut people like McCain off at the knees. They just kill you.

My guess - this is a PR leak in order to try to scare people into voting for the budget package that is about to fail.

How about notices to about five million people that they will be put on a big bus and sent back to their home country? We would then welcome them to wait their turn in line, embrace America, show us that they speak English, and join us in an orderly fashion.

Too little too late.

5000 is just a small fraction of the number of state workers that have been increased over the last decade. He needs to fire a lot more - the more people we have in private industry, the sooner we can get away from socialism and back to capitalism.

Schwarzenegger told a Capitol news conference. "Sacramento is not Washington ... we can't spend what we don't have."

BS, you've done it for years. The only difference now is you've run out of lending sources.

I like your 50,000 number.

California lost 62,000 jobs in March alone. Unemployment is now at 11.5 percent.
I propose an 11.5% layoff of state workers, which would be a bit more than 50,000.

Why not? If “that man” was allowed to be the usurpator, why should Ahnuld be denied his chance? Actually, I’d enjoy him more... he at least has a personality. He, at least, loves this country. He, at least, would get up in the slammies faces and say “Who is your daddy, and what does he do?”

OR,

Terrorist:”When are you going to kill me?”
Arnold: “NOWWW!!!” (he throws a fireman’s axe at the bad guy)

OR,
Helen: Have you ever killed anyone?
Ahnuld: Yah, but zey vere all bahd.

OR,
I vant to see John Connor.

I’ll be back.

You’re right. Serves me right for not writing down anything about the pic.

Here is the caption for a different shot of the same group, that day:

BAKERSFIELD, CA - OCTOBER 3, 2004: (L-R) Mary Bono, Republican gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) raise their arms during a rally October 3, 2003 in Bakersfield, California. Schwarzenegger continues on his four-day bus tour through California that began in San Diego and ends in Sacramento. There are six buses in the tour, all named after Schwarzenegger films.
