John McCain says he "vehemently" objected to the Bush administration's use of harsh interrogation tactics -- and suggested Nancy Pelosi should have done the same when she first learned of waterboarding in Feb. 2003.
Pelosi said she was only told Bush administration officials asserted their right to conduct enhanced interrogations during her first briefing on the topic in Sept. 2002. She learned that waterboarding had been used on high-level detainees after an aide attended a briefing in Feb. 2003 -- and tacitly supported a protest letter by Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.).
I asked McCain if he bought Pelosi's argument that she was hamstrung from acting on what she learned in classified CIA briefings.
"If she felt it was wrong she should have acted," the former GOP Presidential hopeful said on his way into the Republican Senate lunch on Tuesday.
"Let me just tell you -- I was briefed on it -- and I vehemently objected to it. We did the Detainee Treatment Act, which prohibited cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. So we felt, I certainly felt, I could act on it."

What did Nanzi Pelozi really know, and when did she know it?
It seems the only way we are going to discover the truth is by waterboarding her.
What a righteous dude. /s/
LOL. Good on McCain for this one. This will drive Pelosi and the loony left nuts...
McCain....McCain.... Hmmm. Did he used to be somebody?
We are way past the days when your secret intelligence service was secret. Everything these guys do winds up on page one.
I think if I needed something done, these are the last guys I’d send.
McCain must have wet his finger and put it in the air to see where the wind was blowing ant then went with the majority( some maverick)
Whatever you think of McCain’s philosophy, what he said was totally logical. If a Republican who didn’t like it would be expected to speak up, then how much more so a Democrat.
McNuts and Pelosi...two peas in a pod.
Good for McCain, this is helpful.
W invaded two countries and killed a bushel basket full of sand monkeys to keep us safe, these two douchebags and ZeroBama are afraid to bitch slap one. Pretty sad for a South Side Chicago Pimp.
It was inevitable that the public would learn, since virtually nobody from Gitmo was disappeared.
Pelosi lied, then lied then lied some more ...
She should resign, for believing people are as stupid as she thought they were.
Gotta agree on most McCain knocks.
But the guy knows torture better than anybody else in government.
Don’t overlook the point. Not so much that he spoke up, but that she didn’t.
Now, to be fair, McCain hasn’t outlined his alternative. Perhaps if he had won the presidency, he was planning to torment uncooperative al-Qaeda with 24/7 recordings of Obama speeches.
Nah, she didn’t want to object then. Then it was politically expedient (and beneficial to her) to go along. Now she apparently sees it as expedient to object, reversing herself. Typical lib ‘rat - whatever the “feel good” policy / notion of the moment is, run with it. Forget principle, forget responsibility, accountability (oh yeah, she’s been lying about knowing), etc. She is the kind of politician that gives politicians a bad name.
Nance is hung out to dry and twisting, twisting in the wind...
If she was aware that McCain was objecting, she didn’t want to stick her neck out? But she could never have anticipated the witch hunt to follow.
You know I am not fond of McCain, but I am really sick of people making uneducated comments about him. There is no similarities between him and Pelosi other than they are both media whores. People really need to take the time to look at his voting record and learn to separate personality from reality.
