all wrapped in 90's-era HTML.

Lame criticism. Way too many web sites larded with needless Ajax, Flex, Silverlight cruft.

I agree. This afternoon I was seeking information on the CanAm Spyder. I found the site. The author felt the need to stream engine sounds in the background. That sucked up lots of bandwidth. I would have enjoyed viewing the camera shots driving the Spyder, but all the other junk locked up Firefox 3.0.0.10. I was finally able to pluck the PDF file with the specs. Sometimes simple is better. Too much "cruft" makes a site unusable. FR is just sophisticated enough to deliver what I want to see without bogging down the browser with unnecessary network and CPU bandwidth hogs.
