Second nuke test by N. Korea would lead to 'consequences': Bosworth
By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, May 8 (Yonhap) -- The senior U.S. nuclear envoy on Friday dismissed North Korea's recent claim that the Obama administration is hostile towards Pyongyang, saying Washington is continuing efforts for bilateral and multilateral dialogue with the communist nation, On a trip here highlighted by the North's renewed threats to bolster its nuclear arsenal, Stephen Bosworth made clear that if North Korea puts its threats into action, it will face "consequences."
"If the North Koreans decide to carry out a second nuclear test, we will deal with the consequences of that, and there will be consequences," Bosworth told reporters after talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan on ways to resume the six-way talks on Pyongyang's nuclear program. The negotiations also involve China, Russia, and Japan.
Bosworth said he and the minister discussed "possible steps forward" in the stalled denuclearization process but refused to elaborate.

TLR, your threads never fail to educate and inform me, not only on what that little Nork Runt is up to, but the lack of comprehension on the part of many Freepers as to why this is a vital issue that impacts on America’s national interest.
America made a major mistake during the Korean War by agreeing to a cease-fire ‘armistice’ instead of demanding an actual peace treaty (since there was not the political will to pursue a military victory over Pyongyang).
What essentially happened was this:
Dr. Uncle Sam told his patient South Korea in 1953, “you’ve got a deadly cancer in your Pyongyang, but we’re not going to surgically cut it out, and radiation as effective as it is, would create other problems we’re not prepared to deal with right now. So what we’re gonna do, is leave a fully armed and equipped medical team in place to keep an eye on your Pyongyang, while we put you on a nice nutritious ‘Uncle Sam’s Capitalist Diet’ which will build up your economy, and your military, you’ll become an economic powerhouse, and our armed medical team up there on the DMZ will keep that cancer in your Pyongyang from spreading, and who knows? You might eventually be strong enough to take care of your own medical treatment, or at least be strong enough to hate our guts, which is what most little nations end up doing after America saves their asses.”
Now people ask a very reasonable question all the time “why are we wasting our time in South Korea defending those ungrateful twerps?”
The answer is very straight forward. Even if the South Koreans hate our living guts, another land war on the Korean Peninsula would result in even greater human and economic chaos and tragedy than the first Korean War, and even if one dismisses the human price tag, the economic impact of South Korea being under siege and/or destroyed would likely cause the economies of Taiwan and Japan to draw back as well, perhaps substantially so.
So who profits from such economic chaos?
Communist China. It is no secret that the ChiComs view the entire Pacific just as Imperialist Japan viewed it pre-1941. It is “their” sphere of influence and they want dominance, and they especially want the United States OUT.
And North Korea is just one of many methods Beijing is using to accomplish that end. North Korea and Comrade Chia Pet may *claim* to be an independent little juche-style nation, but were it not for their benefactors in Beijing, they would have collapsed years ago. When Beijing tells Pyongyang to jump, not only does Pyongyang respond with “how high?” but with “would you like a few flips in the air with that?” And North Korea does nothing regarding their nuclear and military programs without the acquiescence, if not tacit approval of their masters in Beijing.
And what would the ChiComs do if North Korea actually got to the point where it managed to lob off a long range missile with a nuke on board that exploded anywhere near say, Alaska, Hawaii, etc.?
They would react with the feigned amazement of the typical pit bull owner after the killer-mutt mauls and mangles some innocent child, “ahhh a thousand honorable pardons, we had no idea that dog would bite, it growl a lot, but never bite before.”
Meanwhile a successful Nork combo missile/nuke test would mean that the entire geopolitical reality would be changed instantly. South Korea and Japan would be perceived as targets (and they would be), North Korea’s international reputation as a purveyor of arms would be notched up substantially, and the perception that the United States influence in the Pacific and ability to project power had not only been diminished, but made pretty much meaningless.
And considering that America now has a goddamned Communist in the White House, the above scenario has a pretty good chance of coming true.
America (and the world, little do they know it) are in deep sh*t.
On pretty paper? We don't want to appear too critical. Thats it pretty paper with some smiley face stickers on it. That should do it.
The naivety here is phenomeonal. They must be the laughing stock of all of Pyongyang.
Really, I am embarrased for that man. Truly embarrassed.
Their assumptions are so off base from reality it is painful to even watch.
