An effort to recall Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger moved ahead Thursday when Secretary of State Debra Bowen certified an organizer's recall petition.
The campaign to unseat the governor is being waged by Edwin Snell, a San Bernardino County resident who runs a political action committee called Recalls California.
The recall petition claims Schwarzenegger "no longer represent(s) the interest of the people and has betrayed the trust of the voters."
Proponents of the recall drive now have 160 days to gather signatures of 12 percent of the state's 8,679,416 registered voters, with a final filing date of Oct. 14.
Once the signatures are certified a process that could take until Feb. 5 a date for a recall election would have to be set, but could be conducted within 180 days of the certification date, according to Bowen's office.

“If another DemocRAT gets in it won’t matter very much.”
It will matter that they can’t continue to blame the mess in Calif. on Repbulicans because Arnie is a RINO.
Why the heck Arnold didn’t stand by his economic principles (at least the ones he said he had when he origninally ran) I’ll never understand. Like Bush, he’ll be remembers as someone that ruined his economy by caving to the left. Had he stood firm, who knows if the outcome would have been any differnt, but he would have been remembered as someone that fought the good fight.
He’ll get fewer Republican votes than Democrat votes should he be recalled.
Heck, they’re all the same anyway. We need some truck drivers and other regular folks in there for a while. Clean it up and then let the ‘professionals’ back into their playground.
Maybe this time they will do the right thing and elect Gary Coleman.
Is it in the U.S. Constitution? I know! Let's ask OBAMA! Didn't he used to teach Constitutional Law?
It’s the principle. When I think I put on the GOVERNATOR T-Shirt and walked the precincts for him, I get really, really angry. They MUST KNOW that we will hold them accountable.
What do you have against Cantor? I thought he was good.
won’t pass. The primary is too late and it will be too close to the election.
I don’t think any Governor can do anything about California’s problems until the legislature is replaced and the way anyone can propose anything to be placed on the ballot. I hope some of you out there are ready because if the welfare checks stop coming there will be riots!
HA!
I hope he does. His sci-fi movies have been good, much better than his record as Governor of CA.
LOL beat me to it. Total Recall. Arnuld’s sci fi movies are less bizarre than where Mexifornia is heading.
We have Google building Obama’s SkyNet to spy on us. if it wasn’t for Obama’s phony stimulus - CA would be totally insolvent. Open borders, liberalism and liberal judges killed California.
That would be a GREAT question to ask him at one of those phony suck-up townhall worship-fests. I can see myself now...:
"Hey First Thug, since you ahem...'taught' Constitutional Law, is it in the U.S. Constitution that we can recall your big-eared ugly ass?"
Cantor is hanging out with Juan McCain lately.
I have family in CA who’d love to sign this petition!
Correct ,, it’s a two part ballot if you will , the recall needs a 50% plus 1 to pass, and then katie bar the door the highest vote tote of all candidates wins it all.. no runoff
We need to take back our state and country by spending time fixing, it is more valuable then money.
I agree the recall petition is important as it sends him a message he is on the wrong horse again and constant reminders by putting out the next candidates and their views to show him what he told us he was going to do and failed miserably at reading the Constitution and understanding his job and failing the vast majority of the California voters and tax-payers.
I am glad he replaced Davis, but, he has gone “green” with predictably whack budget results, like ridiculous standards that have us all paying a high premium for gas, resulting in higher costs of everything. He supports homo marriage now and has a lesbo chief of staff. He has advocated raising taxes in a phenomenal manner. He has opposed the one thing that might help us get on our financial feet - offshore drilling. And he loves social programs.
Time for him to go. I am sorry, I find him a likeable fellow, and it helped us when he replaced Grey. But he seems to have to moral center or principles, nor does he seem to have any economic logic.
