SACRAMENTO—Five of the six budget-related measures on California's May 19 special election ballot are trailing, particularly among voters who say they're closely following election news, according to a Public Policy Institute of California poll released Thursday. "The voters who are really tuned in are really turned off," said Mark Baldassare, president and chief executive officer of the San Francisco-based research organization. "They see the state's budget situation as a big problem, but so far they don't like the solution."
The six propositions, put on the ballot by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and lawmakers, are an attempt to deal with the state's persistent budget deficits.
The centerpiece of the package, Proposition 1A, would impose new state spending restrictions and temporarily extend a series of tax increases adopted by the Legislature and signed by Schwarzenegger in February to help erase a $42 billion budget shortfall.
Proposition 1A was opposed by 52 percent of the 1,080 likely voters questioned by the PPIC in a telephone survey conducted from April 27 to May 4. Only 35 percent said they supported the measure.
Opposition was even stronger among poll participants who said they were closely following news about the election. Among that group, the proposition was losing, 65 percent to 29 percent.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Yeah, once there is simply no more money to give, there’s a ‘revolt’. This state is tapped out, going in the tank. And it’s going to be worse than they project, with the property values continuing to drop, thus further impacting property taxes. THROW THE ILLEGALS OUT OF HERE.
Good news for Californians, unless Jerry (Moonbeam)Brown determines it is an issue too important for the voters to decide and is preparing to ask the courts to intervene.

Judges overrule election results all the time. Why should these results matter? Elections are just a way for the little people to blow off some steam.
Is there a big push to defeat these measures? What groups are opposing them? Is there a grassroots effort too?
It would help if you, as poster, would summarize what each of the six is so that it’s clear how the taxpayers are fed up. I don’t doubt you, but this doesn’t give me much info, and it’s helpful if the poster summarizes the guts of the article. Thanks.

The only one that has popular support is the suspension of pay increases in years without a budget. The real-world result of that will be increased pressure on hold-out legislators to go along with spending and tax increases. I’m going to vote NO on everything, including that one.
Ironically, it may be the props will lose because those Republicans who haven’t already moved out, oppose them as tax increases.
And leftwing democrats who see themselves ascendant once Arnold is replaced in the next election (termed out) almost certainly by a democrat.

So really it’s just setting the stage for an even bigger fiasco, because Arnold is now, a wishy-washy RINO.

Arnold made the same mistake Bush did. Except he did so, with far more dramatic a change in governing style.
Following his attempt to control spending - which was fiercely opposed by unions, it was like Arnold had received a electro-shock treatment. A lobotomy even. It’s like he was replaced in office by a weird liberal version of what he had been.
That’s when he started to suck. Prior to that, he was scoring huge PR wins with comments like “girlie men”, and showing how it was done. Then suddenly following the defeat of the budget measures - he became a total pod person.
The change was stunning, and utterly complete. Arnold stopped being a Republican, and became an unprincipled, squishy democrat lite. Thing is, there are any number of real socialist democrats who will do no such moderation once it’s their turn.
Will the GOP *never* learn??
CA is the breeding ground for stupidity. I know there are good people with a portion of common sense, but they are not the majority of voters. Liberal causes dominate the picture and the budget. They will continue to sap the life from the state and the taxpayers. Rights for sexual deviants, while not a real issue, seems to be the obsession with most of the media outlets there, while the state is heading for a train-wreck. What about setting some limits on the outrageous salaries in Hollywood—what does it take to repeat memorized lines in front of a camera?
One other item—of what use is voting in CA? Corrupt judges, if they don’t like the outcome, are allowed to ignore the voting populace.
