The Republican Party suffered a major blow on Thursday when Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor and Secretary of Homeland Security, announced that he will not run for the U.S. Senate in 2010.
After careful consideration and many conversations with friends and family and the leadership of my party, I have decided not to seek the Republican nomination for Senate," said Ridge in a written statement.
Ridge's decision not to run is a boon to Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa. The longtime moderate Republican senator switched parties on April 28 to avoid a tough GOP primary challenge from former Rep. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., a one-time head of the anti-tax Club for Growth who has pilloried Specter for supporting the borrowing and spending contained in President Obama's stimulus package.

No bias in THAT headline, is there?
If it were a fair fight... not likely. Of course it won’t be a fair fight. It’s so easy to coral Democratic voters in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and bus them to the polls. Add in the deceased vote and Toomey won’t have a chance.
Ridge is CREEPY!
Not necessarily, but I’m glad that the RINOs don’t get to pick and choose our candidates. I’d rather see across the board conservatives so that the message is clear.
Pravda does its SPIN JOB in trying to deflate the GOP’s as the election is hopeless...like they did with Dopey-Changey and their non-coverage of ACORN, Odinga, Wright...on and on.
ABC sucks. I only watch college football in the fall.
Obama, the radical marxist, won by 10 points - against a moderate Repub.
As Mark Steyn put it today, you don't win by moving to the center, you win by moving the center to you. That of course requires a strong candidate - but I don't accept the premise that leftists can be beaten by "moderates" who can't make a principled argument against Marxism.
Rendell must have scared Ridge off.
Specter will not win the primary.
