LOUISVILLE, Ky. Customers at a New York City KFC hoping to redeem coupons for a free meal were disgruntled when the fast-food restaurant ran out of its new grilled chicken, but Internet rumors of a riot were unfounded, a Kentucky Fried Chicken spokeswoman said Wednesday.
"Some customers were upset because they couldn't get their chicken, but there was no riot," said Laurie Schalow.
Schalow said the Manhattan restaurant on East 42nd Street plans to begin honoring the coupons again Thursday after it resupplies the kitchen.
The coupons were available on Oprah.com for 24 hours beginning Tuesday after Oprah announced the meal promotion on her show. Each downloadable coupon can be redeemed for two pieces of grilled chicken, two individual sides and a biscuit.

I brought in a coupon for a free piece of grilled chicken the other day. I thought they were asking, “Where’s the chicken?” for the same reason I was—the piece they gave me was about the size of a mini-CD.

The article said the company denied there was a "riot" but I believe there was a near one.
Listen to this rant from an Oprah viewer:
I loaded all my kids up and got them excited about going to KFC. Due to our income, I take them out to a restaurant only about twice a year. When I got there I waited 10 minutes for anyone to take our order. Then I was told they would not accept the promotional coupon I printed from Oprah's web site because it was outside the hours of 2:00 - 4:00. The coupon said nothing about being limited to 2 hours a day. And my kids are in school between those two hours. So we left and decided not to buy anything because I was so upset. I don't know if I will ever want to visit KFC again. I can't believe that something KFC intended to bring in new customers was handled in such an unprofessional and inconsiderate fashion. I live in Tulsa, OK, and I called some other locations - they all have the same 2 hour window of acceptance.
So, she obviously has a computer, printer, phone, internet connection line, car, etc.......but needs free fast food coupons in order to eat out more than twice a year?
Surprised no on was crushed to death for a few bucks worth of chicken.
She probably thought it would be nice, they put the coupon out there they should respect it. Who pooped in your corn flakes.
That Oprah is such a genius, her brain has been replaced with fat.
0bama needs to address this social injustice immediately.
The poor in the country can not eat their computers, printers internet connection, phones or cars.
What a hateful country we have.
The download is no longer available, but coupons will be honored until May 19, 2009excluding Mother’s Day, May 10, 2009. Also, not all stores have the grilled chicken. They have an 88-page list of participating stores.
I wonder how many people saved the pdf or took screen shots so they can print more than the allowed amount? Free meals for a week and a half!
“The 911 dispatch desk was overwhelmed with yet another Level IV Missing Chicken Catastrophe.”
...with most of the moronic callers screaming, “This isn’t the hope and change I voted for in November!!!”
What I find stupid is all the “KFC not honoring Oprah’s coupon” and you dig deep to find out THEY RAN OUT OF CHICKEN.
Poor wittle Oprah watching Obama voters. Can’t put two and two together to recognize internet coupon for free chicken equals low supply and managers can’t wave their genie hands to whip up some more until the delivery truck arrives the next day.
These are the same people who said/thought “I don’t have to worry about putting gas in my tank...”
Maybe Oprah should open up a chicken place and give the people she gave the coupons to their chicken.
The coupons were available on Oprah.com
How fitting.
The media love this trick, it guarantees sound bite, embarrasses the poor and gets people talking. (Like this)
