Yes. The rules are: "Upon such reading of any such certificate or paper, the President of the Senate shall call for objections, if any." Did Cheney call for objections? (See USC Title 3, Ch. 1 § 15: Counting electoral votes in congress)

It looked to me as though he might have been about to do that when Pelosi stands up and starts clapping and the crowd joins her. When they pan the crowd, the guy you mentioned is holding up his hand. Was he trying to object?

I really don't understand the process here and I might be misreading and misunderstanding it, but that's what it looks like to me.

Believe me, it’s long been a nagging concern of mine as well.

I read the Constitutional language as:

a member of the Senate and a member of the House have the opportunity to voice an objection to the electoral vote.

VP Cheney did not ask the question that I saw.

I’m just not clear as to whether Vice President must asked if there ARE any objections, or if anyone with objections can just voice them.

I now wonder why that hand in the crowd was raised.
