It was always preachy. It was the anti-war gospel according to Alan Alda, whose “Hawkeye” characterization was just a rip off of Groucho Marx.

“In the twilight of his career”.....this guy must really have delusions of grandeur. I don’t recall seeing him in anything since MASH, and that part wasn’t even very big. What the heck has he done in the past 20 odd years that he would even think it important enough to announce to the world that he’s gay?

Hmmmm...
Someone in the Swamp was MORE in touch with his femine side than Alda?
I loved him as the dad in “Better Off Dead” though...

I saw an interview with Larry Linville and he said he left the show after five years because it was getting preachy. Can't blame him. It was nauseating the way things went with Alan Alda using the show as his personal soapbox.

I don’t care that he’s gay. He’s a good actor, even a better voice actor, and he’s never been a flaming queen activist. The only thing I care is that he now sees a reason to come out and may start getting into activism.
To: Carl LaFong
It was always preachy. That was very subdued in the first three seasons. The comedy came first. By the time Radar left, they couldn't force a joke that worked into the show.

I believe he has done a bunch of celebrity guest conductor appearances with moderately major symphony orchestras. Reputed to be competent with the basics.

Thanks, Charles, er, David, for the candid admission on a topic of concern to all of us.
I will file this in the category of "whatever floats your boat, pal."
