You are correct but the issue under discussion is separate and distinct. Iran is under attack from Kurds and can defend.

It is according to the USG and the State Department...

Sorry but i don´t trust official State owned organisations like the US State department in cases like this. As said bevore Saudi Arabia is a important trade partner for the Oil trade of the US. There for there are many different political interessts involved. So such an report can not be 100% trusted. How about the cold hard fact that 15 out of the total 19 hijackers from 9/11 have been Saudi citizen? coincidence? where did Osama Bin Laden again come from?
could it be Saudi Arabia? then where do they have strict sharia law wich could make a Taliban jealous? Oh again Saudi Arabia....

Not a real big deal, as far as I can see. Kurdish separatist insurgents launch an attack on Iran from within Iraq; Iran hits them back. I would expect Iran to be able to defend itself from such attacks into its own soil.

That is not to discount all of the myriad reasons that we should still be extremely wary of “making nice” with Iran, however. Their resolve to destroy Israel, their denial of the Holocaust, and their arming of insurgents who attack US troops in Iraq all mean that Iran should remain an enemy, until they genuinely change their ways (which we know they won’t).

It’s just that this particular headline, “Iran launches airstrikes into Iraq,” is alarmist and sensationalist, when in fact the actual story, well, tells a different story.

I agree with you about Turkey. Although claiming to be secular, it is an Islamic state IMO.

As far as the Free Kurdistan! that I posted, it was merely a statement describing a senerio for a perfect world. As far as I know there is no Free Kurdistan movement.

Although it did get one hypocritical keyboard cowboy a bit vaclempt.

yes turkey is defintely a islamic state regardless what they say. and for the hypocritical keyboard cowboy... :-) hey add me to this list as former kfor “soldier” in Kosovo who now prefers the role of an armchair generall ;-)
greetings.

Who do you trust? Based on my personal experience and knowledge, I agree with the assessment by the USG.

You need to distinguish between the government and its citizens. Saudi Arabia is not a state sponsor of terrorism. Timothy McVeigh didn't represent the USG.

I suppose everyone in Austria must be aware of that classic line from the American movie Dumb & Dumber with Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey by now. It really was a lot of stupid humor, but that line still tickles my funny bone when I think of it. Also when he licks the pole on the ski lift and gets his tongue stuck.

I’m reading a book called “The Coming Of The Third Reich” by Richard Evans because things seem so much like the Weimar Republic and the 1930s to me now. He talked about Lenin always saying that. What gets me is the shock and horror the average German had when the Treaty of Versailles was signed and people gradually came to find out what had been agreed to.

Essentially big chunks of their country were taken away, and it’s as if Alaska was left on its own — wanting to reunite with the US but not being allowed to. Oh, and having to destroy the military as well so as to be defenseless.

The reason it gets to me is the shock and horror I felt when “that man” was actually elected and the revulsion and fear I feel now that he’s going through with a wrecking ball and destroying the nation’s institutions.

Well thank you very much. But to be fair Kosovo was more a police or a peace keeping operation... (especially for me since most of the time when we have been on patrol i was behind “my” 12,7 mm (cal .50) machine gun in a Pandur Apc) So there are a lot of soldiers around the globe who would earn your thanks much much more.

Uh, to the “Weekly Standard,” Bush did make overtures to them and over a period of longer than 100 days.

I have no recent source however in the not so distant past the Iraqi kurds were making incursions across the border to harass both Iran and Turkey as they attempt to establish greater Kurdistan

I thought Obama said the real war was in Afghanistan?
