Alaska legislators argue Gov. Sarah Palin is overstating the strings attached to federal stimulus money she's planning to reject. But Palin isn't backing down and said she still won't take the $28.6 million for energy programs.

Huh. So she’ll take some but not all? Isn’t that kinda like “I didn’t vote for McCain, I voted for Palin!”?

I’m going to try to put a request into Al Gore to send some global warmings to Alaska so I can move there.

Because much is out of her jurisdiction to refuse. She isn’t a dictator.

Gov. Palin is not taking money with Obama strings attached.

That worked out really well for the original TARP recipients too

Govs. have state legislatures, but you knew that

AS Michael Reagan said re convention night:

Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he’s a she.

In one blockbuster of a speech, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin resurrected my Dad’s indomitable spirit

May 04, 2009

Rush Limbaugh defended Palin and heralded her as the “most prominent and articulate voice” for conservatism.

Here is a little research project for you. How much land is federal there? How many roads fall under federal management? How much is under the corps of engineers projects? What state agencies are solely funded by state house or department mandate?

The legislature voted 56-3 to take all the money. A veto would be a worthless gesture. So what did she do? She led, that's what, more than any governor in the country.

-- She rejected funds that would force changes in state law...the $28.6 million. The legislature won't call a special session over that. That's why they're complaining so much.

-- She replaced state funds with federal funds where she could ($130 million).

-- She persuaded the legislature to clearly state in the legislation that when the funds ran out, the programs were gone. Major victory.

-- She secured commitments from the education community that the education money would be spent consistent with "one-time" funds.

-- She made sure the public was educated on the consequences of being enslaved to federal handouts...many public hearings and statements from her.

-- She called out Obama publicly and said he should veto this piece of crap called "stimulus".

She hasn't finished with the veto pen yet, either. Plus, the FY 2010 Alaska budget has been reduced 16.7% (in real terms) from the previous year, pending any further veto's.

Kudos to the Governor. Ronald Reagan wasn't into pyrrhic victories and neither is she. That's why they called him "pragmatic" even when it made people like me mad. He had to be a leader.

I wasn't debating that point. Even though the government funds those projects, which are Constitutional, doesn't negate her jurisdiction over the State.

But then, what does the Constitution mean anymore let alone States rights (10th Amendment)

It's not just States' rights that concern her, it's LOCAL rights.
Palin spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said the governor's primary concern with the funds is that she believes energy codes should be a local government decision that considers local needs -- not a state mandate.

"We shouldn't have to change our local laws to accept more of this federal package, as the feds already control much of our young state, thus prohibiting our opportunities to responsibly develop," Palin said in an e-mail.

I like Sarah Palin, she made it possible to pull the lever for McCain, and still have some semblance of self respect left..

I sincerely hope hope that she doesn't get corrupted by national politics and becomes more adept at handling the media. She will never make it if she doesn't.
