It’s true. I know a fellow who worked at Social Security. And he did verify this for me many years ago. He said at the time that they were going to get tougher on the criteria but yes they consider addiction a disability.

When someone’s drinking, they can’t inadvertantly make you drunk by osmosis. Ever tried to study for college exams in a cramped dorm when your suitemate is smoking tons of pot and various other narcotics?

Congratulations.

This is about the dumbest argument, on any subject, that I've ever read.

I don’t know anyone that does not do both; smoke pot and have booze at the same time. I have seen people drink and not smoke pot but I have never seen someone smoke pot and not drink so it would be an interesting study.

LOL, well if YOU haven't seen it....

Abortion involves the abrogation of the rights of another human being, so the two situations are not analogous in this argument.

I'm embarrassed for you that you think they are.

Dont change the subject, I'm not talking about abortion and the two aren't even remotely close in consideration. Clearly your thinking on this is liberal. "I dont like it so you cant do it".

I didn't say you used logic because you didn't use it. YOU used feelings so clearly you belong here. nick nick n nick nick nick nickelodeon

Ever tried to study when everybody's drunk? Pretty difficult too.

As a matter of fact, yes. The same roommate had a nasty underage drinking habit to go with his drug abuse. It's called headphones and/or earplugs and/or a door. I never once had an issue studying while he was getting wasted, nor did I have an issue with any other roommate who plastered himself while I was in college.

That is the weakest, most unsupported rebuttle I've ever seen on free republic. You didn't list a single fact to support your "well-informed" opinion. You didn't even resort to a red herring, you just pretended to not require any support at all. When the genius that is your intellect invents a device to keep all narcotic fumes from leaving your person while you're smoking, then I'll support legalization for adults. Until then, pack up your trailer and move to California.

Ah, well how about no smoking period in a dorm.

I wasn't aware dorms were the only place that narcotic fumes could be breathed by bystanders. I was giving my own personal experience, but the concept can apply to any location.

Hint: that wasn't a "rebuttle" [sic].

You didn't list a single fact to support your "well-informed" opinion.

That opinion stands on its own, and contains all the "facts" necessary.

You didn't even resort to a red herring, you just pretended to not require any support at all.

Again, my opinion requires no "support," as long as I hold it. Were I trying to convince YOU of it, then support might be needed.

I own such a device, though I can't take credit for its invention; it's called a "house."

Oh, you just posted it for shits and giggles, is that it?

Oh, so the fumes don't leave your person while you're smoking in your house? They can't be breathed by your family or anyone else who happens to be inside your house? Amazing! Your house must contain some magical property that puts Mr. Magorium's wonder emporium to shame!

And btw, I am not aware of any college in any state where smoking pot is both legal and allowed by college regulation in dormitories. Because of this, I am not sure what your comments have to do with legalization.

A dorm is your "home" at college. By your own logic you seem to think it SHOULD be legal there. But as I said already, this was my personal experience, but the fact is you can't control who around you is breathing your fumes regardless of where you are.

Please, no profanity. It is a violation of the rules here.

LOL, you've surpassed your first "argument." This one wins! You have a bright future!

Maybe if you didn't smoke so much weed you'd have enough brain cells left to understand why your smoking is a violation of other people's rights not to ingest narcotic fumes.

Btw, if my first argument was so dumb, why do you now act like you now think pot should still be banned in college dorms? The fact that it IS banned there is evidence of why it should be banned period - the same principle applies universally.

You're addled. Of course colleges are allowed to regulate dormitories in a responsible way. I do not support legalizing marijuana for minors anymore than I support legalizing alcohol for minors. I also support open container and public drunkenness laws, and would do the same with legal marijuana.

Your mind-reading skills are lacking.

Non-sequitur; some college students are over 21 and not minors, most colleges allow them to drink. By your logic, those students should also be allowed to smoke. And go ahead and try to get me banned, I don't care. If I had known FR was so full of pot heads I never would signed up. I've had the real life druggies threaten my life enough already, I have no desire to set off online drug heads too.

So you think people have no right to be free from narcotic fumes smoked by others then... because that was the thrust of my argument, not the personal attack.

You assume too much. I am very comfortable with separate regulations vis a vis public versus private spaces. Alcohol is, in most jurisdictions, illegal to consume in public, and being intoxicated in public is also, generally, illegal.

Given that the majority of occupants of college dormitories are, if not minors, than at least then under the legal drinking age, prohibition of the use of intoxicants is expected. That doesn't even take into account that dorms are college property, and subject to its regulation.

Sorry for not elaborating on the effect of legalization on college dormitiories; your fixation on them is cute, but it's been 25 years since I've even been in one so they're not the first thing I consider when reflecting on public policy.
