A CNBC panel including the channel's all-stars discussed if it is "ethical" to lie if it can "stabilize" the financial system. Commentator Steve Leisman was entertaining this type of thinking but wouldn't admit that he supported it. Chicago's Rick Santelli shot back and told him he sounds like Richard Nixon and asked who did he vote for. Leisman told Santelli he was just "posing" a question about stabilizing the system and not actually endorsing it. Santelli reacted and told him "don't open your mouth and say dumb things." Reaction from traders on the Chicago floor could be heard in the background.

If I remember right from the first of Santelli’s rants that one thing he said was that he didn’t want a job in Washington, something about corruption, a cesspool and needing to take a shower thinking about it! LOL
I’d love someone with a little backbone in Congress now though. I’m tired of only having a handful of folks there raise their voices on ANYTHING unless they’re getting some deal out of it.
Way to go Rick!!1
This is really frightening. Santelli is right on but the rest of the panel seems to have no moral anchor. Santelli gets it: an open market system requires transpanrency. When the government gets into the business of hiding information “for the good of the country,” that will be the end of the open market system, the end of prosperity, the end of freedom, because it is a short jump from “the good of the country” to “the good of the government” and from there it is a short jump to “to keep us in power.” And I am afraid that we are exactly at that point with this government.
I just wish FNC would hire Santelli for their Business Cable.
Santelli’s had it up to here with P.C.!.......
My God.
Funny how only BoA shareholders needed to have the truth hidden from them in order to keep the economy from collapsing.
Funnier still how Paulson didn’t need to hide the truth from Goldman Sachs “for the good of the country”.
If it looks, walks and talks like a financial oligarchy, it likely is one.
good grief
I think Santelli needs to get off that network. Between Cramer and all the other ethically-challenged boobs, that place is a shipwreck.
It’s not only OK to lie at NBC, it’s mandatory, and the best liars are rewarded.
Who could forget Dan Rather's immortal quote in defense of Bill Clinton? "I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things." Or even the eye-popping notion of "fake but accurate"?
Bump for later.
Great comments Juan...right on the money.
Yeah...too too.
FMCDH(BITs)
unfortunatly fox business channel is still the bastard step child of business reporting. The heavy hitters are not on there.
I’m really liking this Santelli guy!
There, fixed it! Thank you! :)
