Palin Joining GOP Rebranding Group
Roll Call ^ | May 4, 2009 | Jackie Kucinich

Posted on 05/04/2009 10:27:57 PM PDT by Choose Ye This Day

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), the 2008 vice presidential nominee, will join a new Republican policy group aimed at reshaping and promoting the party brand.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.)announced Palin’s decision to join the National Council for a New America on Monday night. The group launched late last week and held its first town hall-style forum on Saturday in Virginia.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the 2008 presidential nominee, indicated during a conference call last week that his former running mate had been invited to join the policy panel. The group, which is made up of prominent Republican leaders, plans to hold town hall meetings across the country over the next few months.

Palin’s absence from the group had prompted questions about whether she was snubbing it or being left out.

“IMO, not the worst thing she can do. It would be good for Mark Sanford and Ron Paul to join in as well.

I agree. I think Sarah can pull that group rightward. We have to remember, it’s in its infancy here. Let’s see what she can do to give it a proper lift. Let her be the one to carry the more conservative messages, because we know she will. As for McCain, much as I’m not a fan of his, he does have some conservative cred on social issues. Frankly it looks like there’s a cross-section of strengths... Romney turns off a lot of people, but he “gets” economic issues. I’m willing to give them a shot — for now.

You mean like Alan Keyes.

Precisely. I suppose farmer18th would be happy if the GOP were to shrink to small core of purists that can occasionally manage get somebody elected to the local Soil And Water board.

You, sir, are a ‘CAFETERIA Christian’ who selects only those verses that support your twisted views.

...As opposed to those Christians who don't quote a single verse? As opposed to those Christians who wax apoplectic when you quote the verses that convict them?

You aren't even supposed to have communion or fellowship with someone who calls themselves a believer and is engaged in serious moral sin.

Well, then, we are supposed to have nothing to do with politicians, who run a state that kills, steals, etc.

Sarah always seemed pragmatic.

Exactly. For example, Reagan was not a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, but his VP was. So was nearly every member of his cabinet. What does it matter if the head guy believes in the globalist agenda so long as all his policy wonks do and thereby the agenda is advanced in lower level policy and upper level legislation. Ronnie was a good guy and a real patriot (one of the few) but he knew reality and he knew what he HAD to do to secure the nomination and the election. He may not have been actively dancing to the tunes, but he knew the musicians and he knew the playlist. So does Sarah, I think. Don't put too much into this move, because that's all I think it may be: A political move to better position herself as a relative outsider inside the pack of elitist contenders.

Think about it, you could sit hidden behind your computer with a bible and do this to anyone alive and keep any discussion about that individual from ever taking place here at FR, when the farmer shows up on a Palin thread, then the thread becomes all him, all the time. The moderators should put a stop to his technique.

I would support that.

Why do you think some Catholic priests with conviction refuse communion to Teddy Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, etc?

“decision to join the National Council for a New America”

But I don’t WANT a NEW America. I want support for the things that made America GREAT.

Socialists want to replace the whole system.

In the Bible it states that when Mary was discovered pregnant with Jesus, Joseph had the option to ‘divorce’ her (which would in all likelihood have resulted in her being shunned and even possibly killed for her ‘sin’)—BEFORE THEY WERE MARRIED. Thank God Joseph loved Mary enough to NOT do that!

Apparently Levi did NOT love Bristol enough to ‘keep it in his pants’. Plus he was not totally innocent in the tabloid arena—IIRC he was all over the place selling his version of what happened as well.

Just sayin’.

They would need to refuse communion to all politicians in office, not do it selectively.

I’m sending up lots of prayers that once Sarah gets set up in this ‘initiative’ thing that she quickly becomes the most influential person there, and can begin to move things back to the right instead of in the moderate middle!! Enough with sitting on the fence, GOP!! Conservative principles, nothing less!!

Bristol—and more importantly Bristol’s mom’s reaction to her daughter’s behavior—apparently represents some sort of secret, festering, testicular wound for some in the conservative movement. I was applauding long and loud when these two kids had the baby and announced they were getting married. That seemed the responsible, penitent, “conservative” thing to do. When they split, I kept thinking about Anne Coulter’s lament about single motherhood and its wasting effect on our culture. Apparently, we cannot only lament that reality if it doesn’t involve a good looking rising Republican star. I tried to turn my comments back to the Jeb Bush “listening tour,” but too many people were busy defending Bristol’s life path. Hence the direction of this thread.

Not those who had a biblical world view. "Killing" for example is a Romans 13 dimension of government, sometimes. Even "taxing" is as well. It would be difficult, however, to claim you are a believer and vote for policies that expanded the reach and practice of abortion.

Hopefully Sarah will distance herself completely from these rino losers. It’s funny now that they claim they want to finally listen. Stupid bastards ignored all our faxes, emails, and letters til we sent them packin. Now they want to listen? Screw them.

Please Sarah, stay away from these rino losers. Do not let them drag you down with them.

“...As opposed to those Christians who don’t quote a single verse? As opposed to those Christians who wax apoplectic when you quote the verses that convict them?”

God looks at what we DO with what we know. He alone knows motive. He looks at the heart.

“For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6)

“But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Matthew 9: 13) (You can see Jesus quoting this again in Chapter 12.....when he was scolding the Pharisees.)

I will not use this thread again to get off the topic of why Sarah Palin is a good conservative.

How ironic. It's a group set to reshape the party, yet is made up of the same RINOs that turned the party left in the first place? What's this new group going to do - promote communism?

A mocker of intelligent design wants talk of God and politics zotted on Freerepublic? I think not. I've been around since 1999; if JR wants me blasted, so be it. It's his home, but it still won't change the fact that government can never be limited if people don't govern themselves.
