WASHINGTON - Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives will seek passage in coming weeks of $94.2 billion in emergency money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and other programs, including $2 billion more to prepare for an influenza pandemic.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, outlining the legislation for reporters, also said the legislation would include $2.2 billion to fund some C-17 airplanes for the Pentagon. But it will not address future purchases of a refueling tanker airplane sought by the Air Force.

What pandemic? I swear the scare was a manufactured “crisis” for controlling purposes. The administration, Congress, and the MSM get together to manufacture trouble. Preparation is one thing, but can’t they use money they already have? Another $2 billion? and people are losing their jobs faster than Obama can “create” them. *rolling eyes*
“and other programs,”
It’s always been all about money, it’s never been about anything else.
Didn’t Barry say during the campaign he was against this sort of emergency appropriation?
Please, God, stop this! Bolt of lightning! Hurricane! Let the Earth swallow them up! A meteor! ANYTHING!! JUST STOP THE MADNESS!!
Looks like Nancy's throwing gang signs...
The democrats are going to spend the money to close Gitmo, wind down the Iraq War(just as all the jihadi’s are ramping up again in Iraq) and various other things that have nothing to do with our military.
You are dreaming if you think the democrats will spend this money on our troops or our military in general.
However the media will spin it as the Democrats wanting to spend this money to win the war a “Smart” way, and when we do pull out it will be an Obama and Democrat victory to the MSM.
Sounds great. I need an emergency Cadillac Escalade and emergency trip to a Caribbean resort.
So now we see why they have tried their best to make folks scared of a "swine flu pandemic"... Nothing more than yet another scare tactic like the library of others that have been rolled out for the last 7 months or so...
And they want money for Iraq and Afghanistan? I thought the libs wanted to just drop trow and bend over... What changed? Oh - right - it isn't Bush's idea this time.
Does anyone remember if any Democrats complained about spending during the Bush administration? I can’t remember a single complaint from the Left about Bush’s spending. So it’s only fair if we stop complaining about their spending.

The New York Slimes blamed Republicans for the lack of preparedness for the virus crisis:
The scramble to keep up with the new flu strain has underscored how wrong some Republicans were to eliminate $870 million for pandemic flu preparedness from the stimulus package on the grounds that it was not relevant to creating jobs or stimulating the economy.
don’t blame me I voted McCain and a straight republican ticket except for sheriff
Democrat deficits are OK. Republican deficits are bad since their mostly spent on national security, pesky as it is to libs.
I’ll be very generous and agree that preparing for swine flu is an emergency. (For the sake of this post) But the Afghanistan war has been going on since 2001, Iraq since 2003. As for “and other programs,” if you can’t be troubled to list them, it’s not an emergency. Which means 2/94.2 = .021% useful, 99.97% non emergency pork.
