As of last nights deadline, we were part of a group of approximately 20 relatively small organizations; we represent many of the countrys teachers unions, major pension and retirement plans and school endowments who have invested through us in senior secured loans to Chrysler.

It sounds to me like they were willing to take 60 cents on the dollar and others further on down the line in position agreed to take 30 cents on the dollar so these folks were demonized as being greedy and selfish for only taking a 40%
loss. The whole entire episode is astonishing to me.

It's more directly a threat.
As secured creditors they had the right to say we want every penny of our money before unsecured creditors get a dime.
