I am planning to take my 11 year old son. It is a movie about a toy, you know.

FWIW, all the interviews I’ve seen about Christopher Eccleston is that he is VERY picky (classicly trained Shakespearean actor, like Patrick Stewart) about what film/tv shows he’ll take. So unless they offered him a bazillion dollars/euros/whatever, I’m willing to take a chance on the film. (Although we’ll wait for the RedBox release, forget using our 401k for a night at the movie theatre!)

Oh, and I’d heard they went back to the American hero storyline as well, but that was a brief snippet on one of those tabloid tv shows as I was flipping channels, so not totally sure about the final product.

It does look good but I was kind of hoping it would be a 70’s style animated carton that I could take my kids to.

To my two younger brothers' eternal chagrin, I used to steal their G.I. Joe dolls...er, action figures to marry my Barbies, even though the Barbies towered over the short 'men' with plastic hair! LOL! :-)

Best. Commercial. Ever.

Globally Integrated Joint Operations Entity

(or very close to that)

Yeah - they can take the new GI JOE and shove it. I’ll take my “Real American Hero.”

It's going to suck.

Why? Because it has a Wayans brother in it. That's an immutable law of Hollywood. "If a movie contains a Wayans, it shall surely suck."

Nothing wrong with "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka."

really what’s up with that, no wonder I never had a GI Joe

Ok. For the record. We didn't think he looked like a fag back in the 70s. That was pretty much the best they could do back then.

GI Joe was the man. He was the action figure that spawned all the other ones- Stretch Armstrong, Evil Knievel etc and then there was the cheap version of GI Joe- Action Jackson. Action Jackson was pretty cool actually because he was more affordable than Joe but he was kind of small compared to Joe. You couldn't really play with them together because of the height differential.

GI Joe wasn't no fag though. Everybody looked like that back then. Starsky and Hutch anyone?

Looks like a video game. One nice thing about Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was the use of real-world stunts and effects. In the last clip of the trailer, it just all looks so damn fake. The missile trajectories, the jumping and twisting of the soldiers, the explosions, the movement of the exploding cars. Looks amazingly fake for all the technology that exists couldn’t they do it better? In T3 they destroyed about 900 cars in that first big scene. Real cars, not CGI, and it was cool.

Darth Maul (Ray Park) as Snake Eyes.
Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) as Zartan.

The UN thing was the original screenplay idea, but it was poo-pooed overwhelmingly in test pitches. GI Joe as we see it in the theater will be an all-American force, just like we remember.

Well, maybe it's just me but I thought the Last Boy Scout was a kick-ass movie.

I hate they took at the part of being American to be some sort of Multi-cultural UN monstrosity

They aren't. That was an early screenplay idea that got overwhelmingly vetoed by test audiences.

Two words: "White Chicks".

Three more: "Dungeons and Dragons".

I’ll agree with you though that The Last Boy Scout had one really good scene - the one in the rain on the football field. What - 15 or 20 years? - later it’s still stuck with me.

I didn’t know black people played “Dungeons and Dragons.”

Globally Integrated Joint Operations Entity

That went away due to overwhelming negative response. They're an American unit in the movie now.

With the President of the United States played by Wales born actor Jonathan Pryce.
