the NY Daily News jack@$$ was comparing this round to .50BMG which it is not in no uncertain terms.
but you have to understand that NY State is at the cusp of banning all .50 caliber center fire ammo....so they have a fish to fry and are vilifying all .50 cals and all firearms period....

My ancient technology Marlin 1895 lever gun shooting a factory round of .45-70 has about the same muzzle velociy and energy as the .50 Beowulf. This writer is well informed: by talking points, not facts.
