In the latest instance of a high-profile GOP member taking a passing swipe at the party's 2008 vice-presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Governor and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney jokingly dismissed Sarah Palins inclusion on TIMEs list of influential people in an interview broadcast Sunday.
He asked, was the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people?
. . . . .
Romney, who was appearing with House Minority Whip Eric Cantor as part of a party re-launch the two are organizing with other prominent Republicans under the banner of the National Council for a New America, was laughing and smiling as he said it. His spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, called it only a self-deprecating joke as to why there weren't more Republicans on the list.
But Romneys quip reflects the deep unease among many in the GOP establishment about the continued high-profile of Limbaugh and especially Palin. There is almost a sense of exasperation among many party elites over the media coverage the two polarizing figures get attention which, in Palins case, is widely seen as a product largely of her good looks and tabloid-fodder family troubles.
Shes bigger in the media than in reality, lamented GOP consultant Mike Murphy, a longtime friend and adviser to John McCain.

History is repeating itself.
Before The Storm
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And .....moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" Goldwater's 1964 acceptance speech
#101 was meant for you.
I left not long after high school years ago. About the time Bob Dull was the Republican candidate for president. I began to see what the GOP was, and what it wasn’t. I have voted Constitution Party ever since.
What motivation does a republican have to EVER do right when he knows you’re going to vote for him anyway???
LOL Thanks Al, That’s great. One by one, and some in groups of three or more......they all will fall.
Excellent.
Theme song for a new Conservative party?
There are a lot of phonies within the political class. We must expose them every chance we get.
When a politician has to continually clarify and parse, it's a good indicator that he has been talking out of both sides of his mouth.
Ann Coulter and Rush are particularly good at exposing these frauds.
> "Sincerity is everything. If you can fake that, youve got it made.
That is a good analysis, but some of the liberal points of view in the polls you cite seem overstated. At least I hope they are:
46% feel that abortion should be legal in most or all cases?
Absolutely outrageous. Have they not seen the full color imaging in magazines, on the Internet and on highway billboards of the baby that they are killing? Perhaps they should take a close look at the contents of an abortion mill’s trash receptacle.
In any case, whether the public is moving toward sanity, AKA Conservatism, or not, the Conservative choice MUST be put in front of the American people.
Even if the trends were strongly toward the Left, I would still strenuously advocate the dire need for establishment of a Conservative party.
“What motivation does a republican have to EVER do right when he knows youre going to vote for him anyway???”

Yes.
See Post 108.
If the Conservative choice is not offered to voters, it will not be made.
We may have to wander in the wilderness for awhile, but Conservatism (and America), will SURELY die given the current path we are on.
“That’s our problem right now... actualy it’s America’s problem.”
###
On the nose.
Even the most hateful, diseased and perverted leftist, owes its incredibly escalating wealth, unprecedented opportunity and safety to the largely conservative foundation on which Western Civilization was constructed.
I’d rather stand with Sarah than any of the ‘posers’...she’s the real-deal in my opinion.
Why does it look like Romney’s pants are down in that picture?
Second thought: Don’t answer.
They led the GOP to where it is today:
Worth repeating, LOUDLY !
This council for a new idiocy better wake up and smell the coffee. We don't need or want 'rat lite. And they seem to think the opposite.
Given that it's not going to be you or me rewriting the Constitution...who today do you trust to rewrite the document our Founders gave us? The language is plain now, and judges misinterpret it (or ignore it) -- what changes would stop judges from misinterpreting the new language?
I fear putting a rewrite of the Constitution in the hands of 21st century political hacks would open 1000 Pandora's boxes.
Yes! We need many more like those two.
Sorry if this posts twice.
You read it right, Mitt.
Most influential.
Get it?
You know, what you try to be.
What you spend your money trying to buy.
But you miss the boat.
You can't buy conservatism, you have to live it from the heart.
You can't change with the wind, liberal one minute and conservative the next.
Oh yes, you can influence the GOP and the other liberal republicans.
They love you and your hair, just like the democrats liked that pretty boy John Edwards.
If it was about people that are pretty, you would have made the list.
America wants to continue to be a Republic and it's Constitution followed as written.
Now that Palin has joined your little group, be nice to her and forget all the dirty tricks you played on her and all of the snide little comments you and John McCain made about her.
Pretend you are interested in her conservative ideas, it shouldn't be hard for you with your record.
Trust in the fact that she joined your group to help all of you achieve your goals for America.
Really, you have accomplished your mission.
She is now one of You!
Really.
Don't be afraid.
She's just a girl.
“The Constitution is just fine the way it is. No one, and I mean no one, in politics today should be permitted to get their grubby mitts on it. We don’t need to change the Constitution — we need to return to what is there in plain print.”
You are missing a big point here. I said I wanted to see a request from each of the States for a Constitutional Convention. That has nothing to do with changing or rewriting the Constitution. What it would do is show Congress (ie. the Dems. and Repubs. ) they are in violation of the Constitution. By that you would see a dramatic change in their spending habits. It would be putting them on notice.
No body wants to rewrite the Constitution. We just want both parties to follow it.
