Romney is somewhat of a socialist, but a lot of his staunch supporters will say “Oh, that was in the past.” Just like his stance on abortion was in the past. Romney was pro-abort as recently as 1994. That was not a lifetime ago. Not even close.

But, but I had to vote for Mitt after Fred dropped out the day before Super Tuesday!

Does this mean I have to leave Free Republic? :)

Romney is a slick opportunist. He is better than, say, McCain, who is driven by a genuine commitment to liberalism in many areas. Romney will be conservative if it is in his advantage to be conservative - a semi-reliable opportunist, if you will.

That, however, does not make him worthy of active FR support. Someone has to guard the non-RINO core values, after all...

Romney: a pro-abortion Morman.
What is so hard for some to understand?

“Oh, that was in the past.”

That reminds me of a great line in "Throw Momma From the Train,":

"One little murder and I'm Jack the Ripper!"

Everyone has the right to change their mind, and I applaud Mitt on his change in his stance on abortion.

But that being said... Why should I trust him as my nominee for president. Because of his former positions, I would like to see real votes that confirm a change of heart and mind. What I am saying is that he needs to hold a lesser position such as Congressman or Senator to prove himself, before I trust him with my vote.

And what about these open primaries, the Demonrats used them to pour McLame down our throats. That needs to end.

The proof is the pudding and where Romney is concerned there is nothing but liberal pudding. If he has truly converted to Conservatism then he needs to run for Congress or Senate and prove himself with track a record. If runs again he is going to find himself wasting a lot of money. Romney was the primary reason we ended up with a lackluster candidate for President.

One one of the other threads someone posted some pro abortion quotes of Mitt from 2007. Makes me think his “conversion” isn’t genuine.

Say what you like, Romney’s not as bad as Obama. Hell, Hillary! isn’t as bad as Obama. If its to the right of Obama and his cabal, I’ll give ‘em some degree of support.

He out did the liberal Democrat in that issue...

Romney is more conservative than McVain, but that doesn’t say much for him.
