If it weren't for the plea deal that his dad, former Veco chief executive Bill Allen, made with federal prosecutors, Mark Allen might not have been in the winner's circle
SNIP
Bill Allen, in pleading guilty in 2007 to three counts related to his central role in the Alaska public corruption scandal, won immunity from federal criminal charges for Mark Allen.

CHARLES BERTRAM / MCT /
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, second from left, jockey Calvin Borel and owners Mark Allen
and Leonard Blach celebrate in the winner's circle after Mine That Bird won the
135th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs May 2, 2009.
What’s up with the “peace sign” or “we’re number two”?
Thats ‘V’ for Victory
Well, the owner might be a skunk, but that was one amazing run.
Bill Allen, in the first of two days of testimony that could determine the outcome of the case, described his close personal friendship with Stevens and how he, as head of the now-defunct Veco Corp. oil-services firm, played the main role in the gift-giving scandal that has landed the longest-serving Senate Republican in criminal court.

Either Borel’s second Derby win or he won the Oaks/Derby double.
I watched the race, as always. Not once did this owner congratulate the fine horse, not once did he even acknowledge the fact that the HORSE won. The jockey did, but the owner did not. First time I have ever seen an owner take all the praise and credit, and totally disregard the horse. NOT COOL at the Derby. The guy is a jerk who doesn't seem to have any regard for his fine animal.
It was the jockey’s second Derby win.
Awesome race and win.
He does love his 'Precious', doesn't he?
(He looks like Gollum)
Video, start to finish..... The horse ran a masterful race and really came from nowhere to win going away. It’s as if he had energy/strenght to burn that race.

I wouldn’t, of course. I did in my post however, thanks!
This was the KY Derby!! And KY is the heart of horse country, you don’t disrespect your horse there.
Before it was hijacked by hippies and peaceniks that hand signal used to mean V for Victory.
