Gays 'buy' twins (65 to 70 per cent of male gay couples choose male)

Brian Sheldon and Matthew Shaffer are one of several gay Victorian couples taking advantage of California's liberal IVF laws.

The couple ordered the two babies -- even choosing their preferred sex, male -- through US IVF pioneer Dr Jeffrey Steinberg.

The Australian Family Association believed it was tantamount to "trafficking in children", while the two fathers yesterday defended their decision to start a family.

"The issue is not really a gay issue. It's a reproductive rights issue for everybody," Mr Sheldon said.

Dr Steinberg said an increasing number of gay Australians were visiting his Californian fertility centre to start a family -- and sidestep Victorian law, which prohibits commercial surrogacy.

"We see two or three gay couples from Australia each month and that's a five-fold increase over the last two years," he said.

Dr Steinberg said between 75 to 80 per cent of gay and lesbian couples came to him for treatment decided to choose the sex of their babies -- using the controversial IVF procedure and embryo screening known as Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis.

"If they choose gender, about 65 to 70 per cent of male gay couples choose male," he said.

Each gay couple is able to choose a baby to order -- taking into account the physical characteristics and education level of egg donors, who are aged between 18 and 27.

The fertilised embryos are then implanted in a surrogate, usually single mothers or married women in their late 20s or early 30s who have gone through a strict psychological and physical screening process.

Australian Family Association president Angela Conway said the practice was like trafficking in children.

"Many of these cases have elements of designer babies," she said.

I had 4 kids the way everyone in my family has since they came to this nation and all without divorce imagine that. We married a woman and had children. NO-ONE is preventing those practicing sodomites from reproducing... their own behavior is.

Just like "gay marriage"... Everyone has the same rights across this country - to marry someone of the opposite sex, assuming you are not a close relative or currently married to another party. These states passing legislation that allows homosexuals to marry is the granting of ADDITIONAL privileges.

But back to adoption and IV fertilization... IF GOD had intended for two men or two women to give birth and to raise children, then would HE not have - in HIS infinite wisdom, made them reproductively compatible? WE are talking about a PERFECT God.

Get ready. If homosexual marriage goes nationwide, new areas for litigation such as gay adoption and gay IVF services covered by health insurance will be started. Yes, it will be considered a “right” to have children, even though such couples can’t have children naturally.

And it won’t just be a “right”, it will be an obligation , such as by forcing health insurance carriers to offer IVF type services to anyone.

The headline misled me. I thought this would be about the selling of adoptive babies such as Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, or Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have made famous. Babies born to order better describes it I guess.

Cherry I agree but being logical is only fit for the movies. We do not have nearly enough individuals who know how to handle rational argument and reach conclusions based on reason. Nearly everything is centered on emotionalism which when laid bare is ridiculous. So much of our modern world and so called “mainstream thought” is no better than made up fiction and often times less so.

On issue after issue our leadership has proven to have gone mad...We are facing a financial crises caused by bad loans and overspending and socialist ideas about everyone deserving to own a home regardless of whether they can afford it and the answer is to spend more and move even further towards socialism with all kinds of new government promises and bailing out people who did the wrong thing like the biggest enabling parent the world has ever seen.

We see the same thing with Homosexuality and its Klingon sexual activist cohorts. Let us not talk about the real issues or even the science let’s instead talk about religion and rights and love. Let’s not talk about disease, gender identity disorders, and the obviously correct way to reproduce and to form a family with both a Mother and a Father. We can’t talk about those things because the activists can not win on the truth but they can win with intimidation, indoctrination, and emotionalism.
