COLUMBIA A woman whose house was being burglarized is believed to have shot one of the three men caught in her home early Thursday.
The woman arrived at her home in northeast Columbia and found that her back door had been kicked open, according to a release from the Columbia Police Department. Inside, she found three men robbing her house.
She left the house, and the men followed her. She told police that one of the men had a handgun and pointed it at her. She fired one round at the men, the release stated.
Investigators collected evidence that led them to believe that one suspect was shot. Though local hospitals were notified, there were no suspects at the time of the news release.
The woman was not able to provide a detailed description of the suspects but noted a suspicious-looking silver hatchback car near her house with a woman inside. The car was seen leaving the area immediately following the incident.
Columbia Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. Anonymous tips can be submitted on the CrimeStoppers Web site for a possible reward of up to $1,500, if the information leads to an arrest.

The article failed to mention how she happened to have a gun to shoot back. Isn’t Missouri a concealed carry state?
She was also very observant to describe the perps (including the car and a woman sitting in it). Must have been the get away car.
I say she did a fantastic job with one shot. Hope this gets more coverage in our local paper here. If she WAS a CCW permit holder, it will support the right to carry even more. Good job!!!
Yes, Missouri has had conceal carry law for over 3 or 4 years now. Also, passed the “Castle law” as well as “stand your ground with deadly force” law about 2 years ago.

No kidding, terribly written article. The suspect pointed a gun at her — THEN — she fired a single shot at them. I guess we don’t want anyone getting the wrong idea that guns can also PROTECT lives.
Good thing this happened when it did. In a couple of years, gun ownership will be illegal—except, of course, for Mexican gang members—and she would be charged, locked up and her property divided among the “misunderstood youths” who were simply rearranging her furniture.
No kidding, terribly written article.Yep and I should have known this when I first read it ... it's written by Hannah Ritchie
Every news story involving a firearm I see is written by some ditz female reporterette who wouldn't know a Deringer(1) from a .50 cal Machine Gun. I swear, it must be a Union Rule. On the upside she didn't say it was an "assault rifle" or AK-47 ;-)
(1) the original, by Henry Deringer, has one 'r'
If something like this happens, I'm going to try very hard to make that at least TWO of the three men.
