Why doesnt Rahm Emanuel pay property taxes? Email Written by gto7 on Feb-23-09 3:58pm From: gto7.wordpress.com
Why dont we all do this!!!! Rahm Emanuel's home
Rahm Emanuel's home
According to the Cook County Assessors website, the Chicago home of four-term Democrat Congressman and new White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, doesnt exist. While the address of 4228 North Hermitage is listed as Emanuels residence on the Illinois State Board of Elections website, there seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home.
The Cook County Assessors and Cook County Treasurers online records indicate Emanuels Chicago neighbors pay between $3,500 and $7,000 annually. However, Illinois Review has been unable to locate any evidence that the former Clinton advisor and investment banker is paying his fair share of Cook County s notoriously high tax burden.

Why wouldnt 4228 North Hermitage property owners Rahm Emanuel and wife Amy Rule pay property taxes?
One reason may be because Emanuel and Rule declared their 4228 North Hermitage home as the office location for their personal non-profit foundation called the Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Foundation. As the non-profits headquarters, their home could be exempt from paying property taxes.
007
In January 2007, USA Today reported on Emanuels foundation:
The Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Trust was formed in 2002, when the Chicago lawmaker was first elected. The former Clinton White House aide and his wife, Amy Rule, are its only donors. Emanuel was an investment banker after serving in the White House.
The trust reported having $2,900 on hand at the end of 2005 after receiving $34,000 from Emanuel and donating more than $31,000
During the past three years, Emanuels charity gave nearly $25,000 to the Anshe Emet synagogue and school [a private school that the Rahm/Rule children attend] , and $15,000 to the foundation run by former president Bill Clinton. It also gave $14,000 to Marwen, a Chicago charity that provides art classes and other educational help to low-income children. Rule is on 20 Marwens board.
(He doesnt pay any property taxes and he gets income tax write-offs by donating $25000 to the Synagogue and other amounts of money to his Foundation. This allows his kids to attend school tuition-free and allows him to expense a lot of personal expenses. What a racket!
Take all your income and donate it back to yourself via tax exempt orgs where you can spend it on as expenses to operate your car, pay the electric and water bills, etc.
I guess if you are a hypocritical liberal democrat who advocates raising taxes on everyone else, this is all permissible.)
Emanuels 4228 North Hermitage home is one of the largest in the neighborhood, with a side ya rd that appears to be a vacant lot, making the Emanuels property the largest portion on the block.
Other North Hermitage homes on Emanuels block are valued in the $500,000 plus range. According to Cook County Treasurers website, the Chicago owners of nearby 118 year old 4222 North Hermitage pay almost $6800 annually. The family at 4224 North Heritage pays $6000 each year in property taxes.
President Obama - himself a connected, Chicago insider who has benefited from questionable land deals - may find it difficult to explain why his very 20 own Chicago-based chief of staff doesnt pay property taxes like the little guy he claims to represent. Or perhaps allowing his wealthy friends to avoid taxes is part of Obamas trickle down redistribution economics. Its certainly the kind of change we Illinoisans can believe in
since were quite familiar with it here in the federal indictment land of Daley, Blagojevich, Madigan, Jones, Cellini, Rezko, etc.
I can only smile at the visual of semitrailers of mail showing up at his sanctuary in IL, or 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue...
Based on my own assessment, the house appears fairly valued. I’m unaware of any way to verify on-line that taxes were or were not paid on it. Perhaps you do?
There is more than enough to detest Uh-uh-uhbama without falling for unsubstantiated internet bull crap.
This is not Bama, this is the head CREW chief. And it should be very easy to discover if he has ever paid property taxes... remember Joe the Plumber...
“I see no proof that the taxes are unpaid”
Unlike the site I use locally, this one seems to only give property value and assessed value...but I can’t find where the actual tax amount is listed. I checked the parcel next door, and it was the same. I don’t think this website gives enough information to know if the taxes were paid or not.
On another note, if you search around in there, your head will spin with the exemptions and ‘multipliers’...it looks like property tax in Cook County is ‘progressive’...us small city folks aren’t used to seeing that...and I hope my county assessor never does!
There’s a serious lack of credible source here. This is an e-mail, full of allegations like “seems” not to have paid taxes and “unable to locate any evidence” that he paid taxes. Besides, if his foundation is donating $25,000 a year to the private school (and there’s no way he doesn’t pay tuition on top of that) he’s doing more than his fair share of school funding, which is what the bulk of local taxes go to.
I’ve read the same sort of unverified claims about the Duggar family, saying they pay zero property taxes by classifying their home as a church — I don’t think it’s true, but even if it is, they’ve been homeschooling over a dozen children at any given time, relieving the local district of that large expense.
“Why doesnt Rahm Emanuel pay property taxes?”
Come on now....this is old hat.......everyone knows that democRATS don’t pay taxes....they are immune from the law.
This isn’t news. News would be one of Obama’s associates that DID pay their taxes.
PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT: “except apartment”
ALSO CONTRARY TO PREVIOUS POST THERE IS NOT RECORD OF TAXES BEIN PAID. THE EXEMPTION IS LISTED AS “YES”
Can the existence and address of the non-profits be verified?
Political connections, protective coloration, and greased palms.
Should have just told them you were a FO0... Friend Of 0bama...
All the pigs are equal only some pigs are more equal than others. This is life with leftist rule.
And WE don't stand in the well of the House or at a podium as WH COS and pontificate on how *some* Americans aren't paying their fair share all the while. That is why this is wrong, regardless it may pass the legal test. One more time I say to these weasels, just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.
Think any host of the Sunday shows will ever ask about this?
“Theres a serious lack of credible source here.” You may want to check some of the Fact Check sites before alleging a lack of credible source. Try these:
According to the Cook County Assessor’s website, the Chicago home of four-term Democrat Congressman and new White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, DOESN’T EXIST.
While the address of 4228 North Hermitage is listed as Emanuel’s residence on the Illinois State Board of Elections’ website, there seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home..
The Cook County Assessor’s and Cook County Treasurer’s online records indicate that Emanuel’s Chicago neighbors pay between $3,500 and $7,000 annually.
However, Illinois Review has been unable to locate any evidence that the former Clinton advisor and investment banker is paying his share of Cook County ‘s notoriously high REAL ESTATE tax burden!
Why wouldn’t 4228 North Hermitage property owners, Rahm Emanuel and wife Amy Rule, pay property taxes?
One reason may be because Emanuel and Rule declared their 4228 North Hermitage home as the office location
for their personal non-profit foundation called the “Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Foundation.”
As the “non-profit foundation’s” headquarters, their home IS exempt from paying property taxes???!
In January 2007, “ USA Today” reported on Emanuel’s foundation:
The “Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Trust” was formed in 2002, when the Chicago lawmaker was first elected.
The former Clinton White House aide and his wife, Amy Rule, ARE ITS ONLY DONORS!
Emanuel was an investment banker after serving in the White House.
The trust reported having $2,900 on hand at the end of 2005, after receiving $34,000 from Emanuel
and donating more than $31,000.
During the past three years, Emanuel’s “charity” gave nearly $25,000 to the Anshe Emet Synagogue (a private school that the Rahm/Rule children attend), and $15,000 to the foundation run by former president Bill Clinton.
It also gave $14,000 to Marwen, a Chicago charity that provides art classes and other educational help to low-income children.
AMY RULE IS ON MARWEN’S BOARD.
So what does this mean?
It means he doesn’t pay any property taxes and he gets income tax write-offs by donating $25,000 to the synagogue and other amounts of money to his “Foundation.”
This allows HIS KIDS TO ATTEND SCHOOL TUITION-FREE and allows him to write off a lot of person expenses.
What a racket!
Take all your income and donate it back to yourself via tax exempt organizations where you can spend it as expenses to operate your car, pay the electric and water bills, etc.
I guess if you are a hypocritical liberal Democrat who advocates raising taxes on everyone else, this is all permissible.
Emanuel’s home at 4228 is one of the largest in the neighborhood, with a side yard that appears to be a vacant lot, making the Emanuels’ property the largest portion on the block.
Other North Hermitage Avenue homes on Emanuel’s block are valued in the $500,000+ range . . . his home is valued at OVER A MILLION TAX-FREE DOLLARS
(see it here at Zillow: Zillow Real Estate Search Results: 4228 North Hermitage.)
According to the Cook County Treasurer’s web site, the Chicago owners of nearby 118-year old 4222 North Hermitage pay almost $6,800 in real estate taxes annually.
The family at 4224 North Hermitage pays $6,000 each year in property taxes.
But the Rahm/Rule family and their bogus “foundation” pay NO PROPERTY TAXES AT ALL!
President Obama - himself a connected, Chicago insider who has benefited from questionable land deals (i.e., his Chicago home in Hyde Park , which was acquired with a little help from his buddy Tony Rezko) - may find it difficult to explain why his very own Chicago-based Chief of Staff doesn’t pay property taxes like the “little guys.”
Or, perhaps allowing his wealthy friends to avoid taxes is part of Obama’s trickle down redistribution economics.
It’s certainly the kind of “change” we Illinoisian’s can believe in.
We’re quite familiar with it here in the federal indictment land of Blagojevich, Madigan, Jones, Cellini, Rezko, Kerner, Walker, Ryan, etc.
Excuse me, but your site has no indication of the taxes being paid or unpaid. The site you reference is a property valuation site.
It’s the “Human Fund”. Happy Festivus to all.
I see no proof they are paid either. But I'm with you on the BS part. Emanuel is no fool. There's no way he'd do something so brazen. Not even MSNBC would cover for him if he indeed declared his home an office of a non profit. Well...lets not get carried away.
It is also public record in Cook County. Look what I found:
http://www.cookcountytreasurer.com/paymentprintout.aspx?type=current&pin=14184080350000
Looks Like Rahm paid $6,511.30 half-year in taxes on 2/23/09 after all. They paid similar half-year amounts on 02/27/08 and 10/14/08. His total yearly tax bill is about $13,000. I thought $6,500 for a $650k house was a bit low.
Even though he is an obama weasel, unless he has some other trick going, someone owes him an apology.
The claim that Emanuel doesn’t pay tuition for his children renders this whole piece non-credible. Rich kids pay tuition AND their parents donate big wads of money on top of that. And just because somebody can’t locate the address on the Assessor’s website is hardly proof that no taxes have been paid on the property.
