Is Sen. Susan Collins a Member of an Endangered Species?
ABC News - Political Punch ^ | 2009-05-01

Posted on 05/01/2009 5:12:24 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

On this week's ABC News Shuffle Podcast, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, talks candidly about the party-switch of Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Penn., her worries about her party and why she shouldn't be attacked for helping to remove money to combat the flu from the stimulus package.

. . . . .

"I was really stunned by his decision and it took me completely by surprise," the Maine senator says of Specter's announcement. "I would not have been surprised had he announced that he was retiring and I would've been less surprised if he'd announced he was going to become an independent but continued to caucus with our party. But I was shocked that he became a Democrat."

Collins said that "there's no doubt that this was a political calculation as he freely and forthrightly admitted, but I also think that being Republican had become increasingly uncomfortable for him and that's the part that really concerns me."

I would like to see her floating on an iceberg, alone, out in the ocean somewhere.
Endangered?
Who cares?

I don’t know about endangered, but she had it right . . . no one would have been surprised if Specter had retired.

He should have retired in glory instead of going down in defeat.

Susan, you were elected as a Republican. Quit your yapping and whining and do you job.

In case, you don’t know what that meansl I will sum it up for you. Do what’s right for America and her people; not what some crazy dude in the WH wants.

Is Sen. Susan Collins a Member of an Endangered Species?

I would not have put this in the form of question in the first place, but since it was, the answer is "yes", and so is almost every North Eastern Republican in Senate and House.

The more relevant questions should be why there are so many so-called "conservative" Republicans in Western, Midwest and Southern states and conservative districts, and why GOP has been spending inordinate time and money to defend and try to save few New England seats (like Chafee) instead of taking and getting seats in their "natural habitat".

By my quick calculation from 2000 Census GOP would have a solid majority in the House and overwhelming, probably even filibuster-proof majority in the Senate if they had paid more attention to the areas of strength, instead of defending their undefensible weak spots. As it is right now, they have the worst of both worlds.

I only wish RINOs were an endangered species.

Alas, they're thriving.

Darn, with Republicans being so meek lately, it's no wonder I made this mistake - should read

Byron York had an excellent piece in the Washington Examiner, that says basically since Arlen Specter has defected, there is absolutely no reason for the Republicans to tolerate the likes of Susan Collins, John McCain, Richard Lugar, Olympia Snowe, et al. The Republicans are going to lose the votes anyway, at least for now, so why continue to compromise with RINOs like Collins at all??

The game has changed to a question of whether The One can keep his Democrats in line, since the Republicans (very shortly) will be unable to stop the Dhimmies from doing anything they want.

yah, she is an endangered species, because the Republicans have everything to gain at this point if they force her to admit that she’s really a DemocRat at heart too. Force the RINOs to try and run for reelection as a Democrat...

A liberal-leaning Republican from a liberal-voting state? Not really. We may have a few more coming in after the next election.

See Kansas58, as an ocean person who has lots of fun with the ocean, I’d like to take Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and others of her ilk in to my world of diving with sharks where I’d like to feed her sorry ass and other Rino turds like her to the black tip and hammer heads around here.
Lots of RINO turds could make good chum.

It’s just the opposite. Any species with which Susan Collins comes into contact is endangered. Treason can be contagious.

IMO the Benedict Arlen swap is almost irrelevant compared to this idea:

They voted for her as a Republican and she voted for the 0bama spending orgy, so what's the difference?

When compared to a Liberal Socialist if the supposed Republican in question votes like a Socialist, then (like Benedict) they are in-fact Socialists.

Only these (RINO variety) Socialists take their money and vote on the image that they are Republicans.

THIS should be what make her and all like her extinct.

Democrats would never allow Collins to be one of them. She’s much more valuable to them to be the face of the Republican Party on the evening news ,sounding like a slow-minded, mush-mouthed moron.

Spot on response.

We often go after the most liberal congresscritter in Washington, Barbara Lee, but she seems to do a bang-up job representing her communist district. Likewise, I’m sure Susan Collins is looked upon fondly by her constituents in Maine or THEY WOULDN’T VOTE FOR HER! Perhaps it’s her peeps that need to leave the GOP and take Susan with them. Same for Snowe et.al.
