CHICAGO, May 1, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In response to the University of Notre Dame's invitation to President Barack Obama to deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree on May 17, the Pro-Life Action League has erected two large billboards located near the South Bend, Ind., campus.
The billboards, to go up May 4 on the Indiana Toll Road, Interstate 80/90, will read, "NOTRE DAME: Obama is pro abortion choice. How dare you honor him," along with a picture of a baby in utero sucking its thumb. They also will list a Web address, NotreDameProtest.com, where visitors can get information on the protests planned during the graduation weekend at Notre Dame.
"These billboards will be seen by hundreds of thousands of motorists, including most of the families coming to Notre Dame for the graduation exercises," said Eric Scheidler, the League's communications director. "They will help make the direct and irrefutable connection between Barack Obama and abortion."
The League and its national director Joe Scheidler, a Notre Dame alumnus and former teacher there, already have called on the university's president, Rev. John Jenkins, to rescind his invitation to Obama. They have protested at the university, and have said they will return to decry Obama's appearance on May 17 if Jenkins' invite stands. Nearly 60 Catholic bishops and scores of pro-life leaders have written Jenkins, urging him to cancel Obama's talk, or otherwise protested his decision.
"As scandalous as the Obama invitation is, it presents us with a welcome opportunity to highlight Barack Obama's pro-abortion record--something which was largely concealed by the Obama campaign and the media during last year's campaign," Scheidler said. "Obama's extreme pro-abortion agenda is out of step with the majority of Americans, and that news is finally getting out, thanks to this controversy."
One of the League's billboards will be located on Interstate 80/90 east, half a mile east of the Elkhart exit No. 92, about 15 miles east of the Notre Dame exit, and the other on Interstate 80/90 west near Rolling Prairie, about 25 miles west of the Notre Dame exit. The League has rented the two billboards for 30 days each, so they will be in place for two weeks leading up to the Notre Dame commencement, as well as two weeks afterward.
The Michigan-based pro-life group, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, also contributed to the cost of the billboards.
I'm waiting on some Leftwingtard mental case to complain about it.
Will ND be hiding all their religious symbols in preparation for Obama’s visit?
In other words, as of now an hour of Hussein is worth more than $8.2 million. They could get Ronald McDonald for a whole lot less and he would be much more sincere.
Shout Obama off the stage with Our Lady’s secret weapon - the Holy Rosary. It can be done.
My only complaint with the billboards is that they don’t hit the point very hard for Mr. and Ms. Average. A picture of a partial birth abortion along side one of Hussein might be the shock some need. But then someone would get offended and whine...
Jerkins and Oboza are going to exchange views on infanticide. Obozo likes the “shelf method”. Jerkins we are not sure of yet.
Fabulous.
Got goosebumps. May God have mercy on our souls for not fighting harder than we do. I give you credit for being in the trenches Mrs. D.
Pro Life Action League ((located in Illinois)
and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society (located in Michigan).
They have teamed up, not only to put up the billboards, but to coordinate donor-boycotts and demonstrations urging Notre Dame to cancel Obama's Honorary Law Degree. Their new action website is at NotreDameProtest.com.
Go there to get the details on upcoming protests and to give them an attaboy.

Any word on Patrick Mahoney at ND?
He Mrs. D.
I can’t understand how the Pope is going along with this.
Sure will.
One reason the Death Eaters get away with so much is that the General Public is so squeamish that one can't even describe in words most of what they support - much less show pictures. "Gay marriage," anyone?
IMO, billboards should be utilized all over the nation to broadcast the words and deeds of the arrogant, corrupt politicians all over the country. Use their words against them for one and all to see. Vote Them “ALL” out!!!
I agree.
They are doing their best to stop God in this country.
Stand up.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well worth repeating, esp the FUNB
He's Bishop of Rome, not of Ft. Wayne-South Bend. He does his part by blocking pro-abort Ambassador-nominees from the Obama Administration --- which he has reportedly done three times now--- :o)
Seriously, this is the Catholic understanding of the role of bishop (each one being strictly responsible for his own diocese) plus the Catholic principle of subsidiarity (every task should be carried out by the smallest or most local unit which is competent to do it; or in other words, local responsibilities are not to be absorbed by central control.)
I do hope the top canonical judge (+Raymond Burke in Rome, an excellent canon lawyer) is advising Bp D'Arcy on the full scope of his options as bishop. I'd like to see D'Arcy rescind Notre Dame's privilege of calling itself a Catholic university, rescind permission for the traditional Mass celebrated on campus in conjunction with the commencement, and suspend Fr. Jenkns' right to function as a priest in the diocese, for defiance. (Yes, I'm the type who would like to go straight to the canonical axe, but that's probably a flaw on my part.)
Incidentally, the level of bishop activity is exceptionally good, and we can only press on strongly for more. So, have you contacted yours?
