We're not going to win hearts and minds by going down the Trent Lott road either.

Absolutely true. Handling leftist callers is something that Limbaugh still does better than any others, far and away. Hannity, Levin, and especially Savage talk all over callers, cut them off and mock them without debate. Granted, some deserve it, but the mushy middle in this country that decides elections are just put off by this behavior.

A lot of the “mushy middle” you describe were that way before they started listening to Rush and Savage. If we don’t loudly proclaim ideas out there who is going to listen? There’s nothing wrong with what Savage does, he fills a unique void in the conservative movement in that we need someone angry to advance our cause. Rush and Hannity are too general at times, when they were talking about the bailouts, Savage was talking about the four Oakland police officers who got shot. Savage brings a street-fighting perspective to conservatism. BTW, Hannity never talks over a caller or shut debate he tries to reason with libtards which never work.

The "mushy middle" is the group people claim their party needs to accommodate its behavior to in order to get its votes. In reality, this group, if it ever does get off its indecisive ass and get to the polls, will vote whichever side of any of twelve to fifteen different things any different one of them may happen to feel strongly amount at the minute they decide to punch the ballot. It's a group that is unified by its desire to be sucked up to or courted, by its shallowness of thought on any real major issue, and by its indecisiveness. The first of these gives the illusion that something can be done to win them over. The second and third make it impossible for any party with distinctive positions on anything to turn the group out on its side. They decide elections only in the strictest crap shoot terms. The most important thing is to get enough of the principled opposition on one's side that a smattering of wavering losers in the middle won't make so much of a difference.
