SEGUIN — Guadalupe County Schools announced today plans to close all campuses between Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 11.

Seguin, Navarro and Marion school districts, along with Lifegate Christian and St. James Catholic schools, are following the advice of the Department of State Health Services regional medical director, who said there are a number of likely cases of swine flu cases throughout the county. The closure includes all UIL and extra-curricular activities.

SISD, MISD and NISD follow the lead of Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD and Comal County school districts, which are already closed.

More info at this site. Makes sense they would close since they don't have to make up the days the ISD's are saving lots of cash.

Seguin, Marion, Navarro Close Schools
Dr. Sandra Guerra, Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Region 8 Regional Medical Director, recommended today that the Seguin, Marion, and Navarro school districts close all of their schools beginning Friday, May 1, reopening Monday, May 11. The school districts are sending letters home with the students today and posting information on their websites to notify parents of the closure.

According to Dr. Guerra, as of today, in addition to several confirmed cases of swine flu in the western end of Guadalupe County in the Schertz-Cibolo area, there now have been a number of highly probable cases identified in the local area of the county. Other cases are pending.

In addition to the cancellation of classes during the period of time that the schools are closed, there will be no UIL or other extra-curricular activities such as meetings, practices, rehearsals, and field trips. This includes activities in the schools, other district buildings, and on the grounds.

The districts are reminding students and parents that the DSHS is asking all people to stay home who are sick with flu-like symptoms or have family members in their homes who have these symptoms. In addition, to prevent exposure to and the spread of the infection, it is requested that all students stay at their homes rather than be in the community unsupervised as they are out of school due to the district closures.

More information on school announcements will be posted on the school district Web sites. For more information on the swine flu, please visit the Texas Department of State Health Services Web site at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/swineflu/default.shtm or the Center for Disease Control Web site at http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/. A toll-free information line is available at 1-888-777- 5320.

What are all of these parents going to do? Their kid isn’t sick but has to stay home. Who takes care of them? This has a spiral effect. People can’t go to work, etc. Multiply it by many states and many schools as this spreads.

Our incompetent government is going to screw this up.

Knowing about where jagusafr lives, I'd say he meant San Antonio's Northside Independent School District.

For those still Confused, all these districts are in the vicintinty of San Antonio, Texas.

If I'd not be tranferred a couple hundred miles north, about 4 1/2 years ago, that's where I'd be posting from, San Antonio.

Not only that, but the older kids, WON'T stay home. They'll head for the mall, or wherever else they normally hang out. Then those places will have to close, or police will have to be sent to chase the kids away. Neither is a "Good Thing".

Well Mrs. Rightly Biased and I flipped for it.

I am gonna stay home the last part of next week.

If she stays home she don’t get paid. She’s self employeed.

But not everyone has paid time off to fall back on.

Our incompetent government has already screwed this one up.
