Here is the problem.
1918.
Do you believe that was just a manufactured news story?
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, learn the damn difference.
That was 91 years ago. We live in a different world now with a lot more access to much better medication. And so far there’s really nothing to indicate this flu is any worse than any of the annual flues we deal with.
This is a way to gauge how easily the US public can be manipulated by the News. Take a problem. Inflate it into a ‘crisis’ by all manner of apocalyptic rhetoric, and see if you can move the public into taking certain emergency measures. If they do, then you know they are ripe for next move in the Global Warming, or Financial rip-offs.
No there isn’t. But people in 1918 lived in a much different word than say people in 1666. Pandemics are real, they can escalate and kill millions, and for people to say this is a “made up story” are just as reckless as those who claim we are doomed and stir up panic.
Don’t forget the global warming “crisis.” Great post.
Well said.
I have to wonder if this is a “test” against us to see
#1. How far it can travel in a short amount of time
#2. Our reaction to it.

Mexico just asked all non-essential businesses to close their doors for 5 days. For an Obama orchestrated crisis, Mexico sure is bending over backwards.
By the way that same WHO 4/29/09 report that says only seven confirmed deaths says only 26 comfirmed cases of infection. Meanwhile it's spread to over 34 US states.
You're drinking some serious koolaid if you believe Mexico ordered an economic shutdown over just 26 cases of flu.
Really? The Swine Flu is bad enough. This strain has FOUR different virus in it. It's NOT the Swine Flu.

The world of 1918 wasn’t that different from 1666 really, not when you look at medicine. Pandemics are real, but that doesn’t mean every single bug is about to repeat 1918, there’s a number of good reasons there hasn’t been a real pandemic since then.
So far it IS a made up story. There’s a lot of arm waving and craziness with absolutely ZERO data that shows any of it is justified. Massachusetts just approved marshal law measures with TWO confirmed cases and ZERO fatalities in the entire state. That’s about as made up as it gets.
I’ll be thrilled to find out this was an overreaction, and pleased to see that we (as a society) have an ability to see and react this quickly and forcefully - in the chance something real was imminent.
I grumble about the inconvenience of fire drills and false alarms at work, but I fully understand why they are not to be taken lightly. That’s more or less how I view this.
Make that Martial Law !!!
All flues are combos, that’s how the flu works, that’s why vaccines have to be custom made every year and it’s a complete crap shoot as to whether you’ll be exposed to the one you got vaccinated against. It’s not really 4 different viruses, it has elements of 4 of the major strains of flu.
You’re on the right track.
My wife is the project engineer for a number of hospitals that have major construction under way. They received emails from all of them this morning stating that construction personnel should avoid the hospitals because they were “under code triage.”
This clearly indicates that someone has distributed a talking points memo to all medical facilities.
“That was 91 years ago. We live in a different world now with a lot more access to much better medication. “
We do.
Not everyone does.
Nothing you know about, anyway.
