A San Jose high school was closed for a week today after a student attended classes while sick with what public health officials have confirmed is the swine flu.

Branham High School became the second Bay Area school to be closed because of the swine flu scare. Highlands Elementary School in Pittsburg [was the first]

"The school closure is to help prevent the spread of illness,"

So far, she said, 13 students have had flulike symptoms.

A letter was sent from the health department to parents warning them that their children "may have been exposed to swine flu" on April 23.

Neighboring Indio has closed it's high school until May 7, due to a student's confirmed Mexiflu diagnosis. All team sports cancelled as well.

TV news this morning had clips from some of the urgent care centers -- all jammed, looking like hispanic daycare centers.

Hey, we’ve got two employees from the University of Chicago hospitals who have swine flu. Kilmer Elementary School in East Rogers Park in Chicago is closed because of a student with probably swine flu. We just got a student transferred from there about a month ago. I imagine that other schools in that area will be closed soon. There’s a big Mexican population for the four elementary/grammar schools (Eugene Field k-3, Eugene Field 4-8, Kilmer (K-8), and Thomas Gale (K-8) and one high school (Sullivan) in that area.

It’s probably fine as long as they’re not in Mexico or in a public school.

Lab checking 3 suspected swine flue cases in Fla.
April 30, 2009 10:31 EDT

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida’s surgeon general says the state has referred three suspected cases of swine flu to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for more testing.

Dr. Ana M. Viamonte Ros said Thursday that the state could hear back about the cases late in the afternoon or on Friday. The three cases are from Orange, Lee and Broward counties.
State labs have tested about 70 samples, but only three cases needed more testing.

The World Health Organization has issued a Phase 5 alert suggesting a worldwide pandemic could be imminent.

Swine Flu: Ill woman is in ICU in West GA hospital
http://www.wtvm.com/Global/story.asp?S=10279275

Thursday, the head of Georgia’s Division of Public Health says the CDC has confirmed the first case in the state, a 30-year-old woman from Kentucky who was hospitalized in the town of LaGrange while visiting west Georgia.

She’d been in Cancun, Mexico, earlier this month.

The woman is in the ICU at West GA Medical in LaGrange, GA showing modest signs and considered seriously ill.

Timeline:

She traveled from Kentucky to Georgia with her 5-year-old daughter by way of car.

Prior to her trip to Georgia she took a leisure trip to Cancun, Mexico with a travel companion from April 17- April 21.

She began to fell ill on April 18th, but she thought it was due to the sun.

April 23: She arrived in Atlanta, GA by way of car.

April 24: She went shopping in Atlanta, GA.

April 25: She went to a wedding rehearsal dinner in LaGrange, GA.

April 26: She attended a wedding and later that day went to the ER voluntarily with family to West Georgia Medical in LaGrange, GA. She was immediately isolated. Officials performed a rapid specimen test , which the CDC received on April 28.

The family and those in her close circle were given anti-viral medications as a precaution.

The CDC and the Georgia Division of Public Health are working together to notify those that were in contact with her at the wedding.

April 30: Confirmed 30 year-old woman who has swine flu is from Warren County, Kentucky.

Notice that in the case above the woman was ambulatory for 8 days, with symptoms, before she went to the hospital. She is now in an ICU. She is 30 years old.

This is the same pattern as reported in Mexico.

I am not sure I have seen your most recent list but you can add Georgia.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090430/us_nm/us_flu_usa_georgia_1

I think you should post a separate thread to FR once all the lower 48 are included in your list. Note, the CDC is still only listing 19 states because they go off of confirmed CDC tested cases. Your list is a leading indicator of theirs. That is why it is so helpful.
