MEXICO CITY/GENEVA, April 30 (Reuters) - Mexico's president told citizens to stay home from Friday for a five-day partial shutdown of the economy, after the World Health Organisation raised its alert level and said a swine flu pandemic was imminent.

In his first televised address since the crisis erupted last week, President Felipe Calderon told Mexicans to stay home with their families. The country will suspend non-essential work and services, including some government ministries, from May 1-5.

"There is no safer place than your own home to avoid being infected with the flu virus," Calderon said.

How the hell do you go from 152 deaths to 7? This is just more leftist lies and bullshit. We can’t trust or believe ANY thing we hear any more from either our ‘big government’ or the leftist-controlled media. And now, it really IS a matter of life and death. It’s time that we make a drastically needed change in this country. Actually, it’s past that time.

..”can we convince them that it is Mexico’s best interests to have the United States invade and conquer Mexico”...

Won’t be necessary. The bipartisan elitists/CFR has a tremendous amount already invested in a North American Union. Their agenda includes security of the perimeter of the continent. That’s why our government ABSOLUTELY REFUSES, no matter what, to effectively secure OUR borders. Would they ‘manufacture’ a virus/pandemic to achieve their NAU goal? Would they destroy our economy to achieve their NAU goal? I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past them. They know they need the whole of the country to go along with their plans...and in order for that to happen, fist, the whole of the country would need to be desperate.

The WHO is covering this up.

It took them days to acknowledge there were hundreds of cases.

In a few days, they will raise the death toll significantly.

It is really difficult. I would rather believe quoted sources myself since they are on the record. But, honestly, who knows? We could have some false info being spread here.....always be suspicious of my friend of a friend stuff.

However, what if it’s true?

Other sites have debunked that. Are they 100 percent protection...NO.

But, they do offer some protection.

Wearing them doesn’t mean you won’t get the flu though. If something gets around the mask, you will get it.

I haven’t gotten any, nor a tamiflu prescription, but I am thinking about it and better act before Friday to have any luck of either.

My immune system has a weakness in the upper respiratory tract, so I do have a valid reason to do so.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it a 23-month-old child that was confirmed as the first death in Texas earlier today?

Yes, a 23-month old child that came to Texas from Mexico already ill.

Shutting down the border is like closing the barn door and burning the barn down 4 days after the horse is gone.

While the rest of your comments about personal responsibility were spot on, you and Pres__ent Zero both have the barn door analogy wrong. Shutting down the border at this point is like closing the barn door after one of your horses has gone but NINETY-NINE of your prize-winning thoroghbreds are still safely inside. Leaving the border wide open is akin to leaving the barn door open and setting a fire in the empty stall and hoping nothing happens to the rest of your horses.

Thanks for the insult.

When you parrot the words of Zero, don't be surpised when folks miss the rest of your comments that advocate personal responsibility.

Excellent point about the mild cases never being on the radar, and therefore never counted in the stats.

I have now recieved all of your posts. Thank you. We disagree. I pray you are right, but I am going to prepare for the worst..especially living in Texas. If nothing happens, I am still prepared for what will surely come at some point during this insane President’s reign.

Take care.

The Number on the level associated with a Pandemic is NOT about the number of deaths but about the spread of disease.
When a virus goes to rapid human to human transmission as this one has, that is what is causing concern.
Plus the similarities to the 1918 Spanish Flu. NO-ONE knows exactly what this one will do yet.
It stands to reason, based upon what has happened in Mexico that it will become more deadly as it passes through the general population.
Personal Preparedness can’t hurt. We KNOW that the government is not the answer to all problems.
Brace yourselves, this could get alot uglier before it gets better.

The following is from a report from the WHO regarding Pandemic Phases.

The pandemic stage 6 may be marked by two or more waves. For example, the initial wave of the Spanish Influenza pandemic in the spring of 1918 was so mild in its effects that it received the dismissive nickname of the “three day flu.”
But when the second wave hit North America a few months later in the summer of 1918, it was lethal.
Apparently in the interim the novel H1N1 pandemic strain had added the gene or genes that made the final wave a killer.
Perhaps the effects of the lethal second wave would have been even more devastating if the innocuous first wave had not already passed through the population, leaving in its wake at least some immune response to the surface antigens presented by the H1N1 in both waves.

WHO never reduced their numbers, as you stated in your original post. So yeah, given the number of people on here dismissing this as just a left wing government coup using that data to back up their argument is what I was addressing.

I bet you are right. Called my doctor’s office today to see if I could get some masks(they are sold out everywhere) because I am caring for my mom right now, who has stage 4 cancer, and my doctor is out sick with pneumonia. The girl told me he did not have swine flu.

I will probably call my mom’s cancer doc in Miss. and ask her advice. I wish I had never brought her here now. The plan was for me to fatten her up before she went through another round of chemo and now I am more than a little concerned about her well being. Of course, we knew nothing about this stuff when I brought her here after Easter.

NEWS FLASH: Member of U.S. Delegation to Mexico showing flu like symptoms. Gibbs is making an ass of himself right now on live TV!

I did not parrot zero. I did not hear about his statement until today. Here is some more information for everyone blaming those filthy Mexicans for the origination of this:

“Medical detectives have not pinpointed where the outbreak began. Scientists believe that somewhere in the world, months or even a year ago, a pig virus jumped to a human and mutated, and has been spreading between humans ever since.

China has gone on a rhetorical offensive to squash any suggestion it's the source of the swine flu after some Mexican officials were quoted in media reports in the past week saying the virus came from Asia and the governor of Mexico's Veracruz state was quoted as saying the virus specifically came from China.

One of the deaths in Mexico directly attributed to swine flu was that of a Bangladeshi immigrant, said Mexico's chief epidemiologist, Miguel Angel Lezana. He said the unnamed Bangladeshi had lived in Mexico for six months and was recently visited by a brother who was reportedly ill. Lezana suggested the brother could have brought the virus from Pakistan or Bangladesh.”

Pardon me, but I contend that some of their religious rituals in Mexico are part of their overall health problems. Sharing a cup with everyone in the community, and having someone put their hand in every ones mouth? Does not sound like a sanitary environment. Could be why they have so much hepatitis, typhoid, dysentery, and parasite issues.
