The House of Representatives just passed HR 1913 -- The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 -- on a vote of 234-190. The bill, which Obama has urged Congress to pass, would extend federal hate crimes laws to cover sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability, as well as race, color, religion, national origin, and sexual orientation.
Not a single Republican voted in favor. 15 Democrats voted against.
In the floor debate before the vote, North Carolina Republican Virginia Foxx called it a "hoax" that Matthew Shepard's killing had anything to do with him being gay.
Ted Kennedy and Olympia Snowe will lead the effort for passage in the Senate later in the year.

There are probably 100’s of links in the Homosexualagenda forum.
I can’t spend too much time there. It bothers me that homosexuals have defined the agenda to the point that they can say or do whatever they want, but you can’t counter it because its inappropriate to talk about homosexuals and what they do.

Does anyone have the skinny on the “The Local Law Enforcement...” part of the bill? Is this the same local law enforcement they tell us can't do anything about illegal immigration but now will have to patrol free speech?

I oppose this bill for federalism reasons, but your argument concerning titles does not sound persuasive . Care to go in a bit more detail?

The thought police are crawling around inside your head.
Gay's deserve to be hated! They demoralize our children and spread
diseases among the children they molest.

Passage of this bill as law will technically make child pornography legal and you won't be able to say anything bad about a pedophile!
Think about it!

would extend federal hate crimes laws to cover sexual orientation, Does this mean that gaystapo groups that spray painted churches, heckled Christians, harassed them at their places of employment until they were terminated, and who contemptuously refer to traditional couples as "breeders" also be prosecuted under the law?

The bill, which Obama has urged Congress to pass, would extend federal hate crimes laws to cover sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability Isn't alcoholism covered under the American With Disabilities act? Hasn't there been reporting on employees who shielded their addictions from employers until such point that their were safe from termination.

That's good. Why, oh, why are they finally growing a pair? They threw away a lot of years of opportunity.

True. I ran some numbers (worked in emergency services for 30 years) and over fifty percent of murder victims were either stoned or drunk. Those stats were from Austin, TX from late eighties/early nineties.
There were, of course, the people who were just minding their own business and came across the path of the wrong person, but you can greatly increase your chances of being murdered by doing certain things and being around certain types of people.

Agreed. This is just another assault on organized religion and American values. The dim party is loyal to the dim party.

They are still voting on it, IT HAS NOT PASSED! That was just a preliminary vote. Call your Rep and demand that they vote against this disgusting degeneracy. CALL NOW! We have got to stop this insane special rights legislation.
To: Victory111
If someone writes a suicide note about how they hate their life and themselves, and then fails in their attempt to kill themselves, are they punishable under this hate crime law?

An office of privilege is very simple. That's exactly what titles of nobility are granted for. Our Constitution states: "No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States"
That means that you can't get a special exemption from following the normal dictates of law, or expect a special process to be followed on account of your special "title", whether it's Duke, Lord, Prince or cross-dresser.
Lots of folks think it just has to do with the trappings of a "class system" but it's really about "privilege" as well understood at the time the Constitution was drafted.
Should be a trivial matter to dispose of these laws granting privilege ~ just take the members who pass them out into the streets and lead them to the guillotine!
As Jefferson said, the tree of liberty must, from time to time, be watered with the blood of tyrants.

Now they can vote against bills they like because they know they will pass anyway.

North Carolina Republican Virginia Foxx called it a "hoax" that Matthew Shepard's killing had anything to do with him being gay. Even if it weren't a hoax it shouldn't matter -- "hate crimes" laws are unethical regardless.
