US Embassy, Mexico City: Update on Flu Outbreak in Mexico
US Department of State, Mexico City Embassy ^ | April 28, 2009

Posted on 04/29/2009 9:59:12 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

U.S. citizens traveling or residing in Mexico City should be aware that on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, the Mayor of Mexico City ordered the closure of all establishments where large numbers of the public gather until May 6, including restaurants, bars, discos, night clubs, cinemas, movie theaters, theaters, gyms, and convention centers.

The State Department believes it is important for all citizens to maintain readiness for all possibilities in case of an emergency. Because of potential disruptions in shopping patterns, the U.S. Embassy is advising its employees to consider stockpiling two-weeks of emergency supplies such as food, water, infant formula and medicines, as well as to verify the availability of cash or credit cards. U.S. citizens traveling or resident in Mexico should consider doing the same.

On April 28, 2009, the U.S. Department of State revised the April 27 Travel Alert for Mexico. The revised Travel Alert can be found at http://travel.state.gov.

All U.S. citizens in Mexico are advised to monitor the Embassy website at: http://mexico.usembassy.gov or sites for the nearest Consulate for additional warden notices and other information. Other important websites providing the latest information are the State Department’s website at www.travel.state.gov, the CDC website at www.cdc.gov, or the website of the World Health Organization at www.who.int. The U.S.-based call center for U.S. citizens can be reached from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time, M-F, at 1-888-407-4747, or if calling from outside the U.S., at (202)-501-4444.

I have to wonder how stable Mexico is at this point.

It appears that the situation in Mexico is much worse than the MSM is telling us.

I wonder why an alert and not a warning?

Closing restaurants kind of puts the foreign businessman visiting the city in a bit of a bind. I guess he has to go find some very sanitary street vendor for some food.

Breaking news:

Texas ‘officials” just postponed all school athletic events until May 11.

A suburban high school near Fort Worth closed today with 4 suspected cases. They requested all parents “keep kids home”.

Yeah right.... those kids will be all over the place. Tell a bunch of high school kids out of school for the rest of the week to stay home. - you would have to throw them in jail to do that.

I’m not surprised this popped up in DFW. There are lots of “tourists” from Mexico on holiday there.

The Mexican flu is spreading everywhere.

More gloom and doom. The stock market is up 182 points. No one is listening to you. Go away.

CDC has PSAs ready that tell all Americans to have 2 weeks food and water. They really need to tell us exactly what is going on or they will freak people out.

“Go away”

No way! The Mexican flu is out to stay. The stock market is going to crash when millions of workers stay home. ...Wait, it isn’t affected by unemployment. Maybe you are right. Nah, things are going to get bad, really bad. The writing is on the wall.

I agree. It would be nice to know exactly what is going on. My only guess is that they have seen the long term projections or have additional info that isn't common knowledge. I got an email blast from the campus I work on over the alert network saying that they have plans for a pandemic and not to worry. If there's nothing to worry about, then why send it out?
