Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman will give a free presentation, “Return of Depression Economics,” at Lincoln North Star High School at 7 p.m. May 8.

“The Lincoln Public Schools District is indeed fortunate – especially in this era of economic downturn – to host the current, reigning Nobel Prize winner in economics,” said Randy Ernst, social studies curriculum specialist at LPS.

He was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Economics, for “his analysis of trade patterns and location of economic activity.”

While in Lincoln, Krugman also will meet with LPS economics teachers.

“This is a significant moment in reinforcing the importance of teaching economics,” Ernst said. “It is critical that our schools are producing economic-literate students.”

Ernst said LPS is one of the few school districts that requires economics as a graduation requirement. The district also is reassessing the economic literacy of students to see how to further improve the economics education at LPS.

Tickets to the Krugman presentation are free. Anyone who has a ticket is guaranteed a seat until 6:45 p.m. At that time, those without tickets will be seated. To receive tickets, contact Heather Abernethy at LPS: 436-1827, or haberne@lps.org.

Krugman’s presentation is sponsored by LPS, Nebraska Wesleyan University and the Nebraska Council on Economic Education.

What? A Nobel Laureate and the only gig he can land is a High School...in NEBRASKA?

ROFLMAO!

This guy is such a fraud. However, if you do the exact opposite of any ‘economic brilliance’ he imparts, you’ll never go wrong! :)

Yikes! I thought it said THE North Star, a rather low life bar in Rochester, Minnesota. His hair isn’t long enough to survive in there.

The man is an unabashed Communist.

That is why he is a “Nobel Laureate.”

I hope he isn't giving advice based on his role as an Enron adviser.

The quickest way out of our economic mess is to pay close attention to what Krugman has to say, take notes, and do the exact opposite.
