The pig slaughter in Egypt is more of a way to further oppress the Coptic Christians than to stop any disease.
Yeah, this thread is about abortion. Nice hijack.
This is government insanity! I can understand that we would not want to stop commerce completely, etc. but that is a far cry from letting hundreds of people from Mexico flood into our country everyday(seeking medical care or ‘visiting relatives’) while a potential epidemic is manifesting itself!
Folks..it is time to shut the phone lines down in Washington again!!
FIRST DEAD: MEXICAN WHO CAME TO USA FOR TREATMENT
The first reported death in the United States from the swine flu outbreak was that of a 23-month-old Mexican toddler who fell ill in Brownsville and was transported for treatment in Houston, where the child died Monday, city officials said.

From the Dallas Mourning Spews:
1st death in U.S. reported as scope of swine flu outbreak expands

Health officials confirmed this morning the death of a Mexican boy in Houston, the first reported death in the United States from the recent swine flu outbreak.
Meanwhile, a handful of North Texas schools announced today that they were closing as a precaution after possible cases surfaced at their campuses.
Houston health official Dr. David Persse said in a news conference this morning that the child was visiting family in Brownsville when he became ill and was admitted to a hospital on April 13. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he was transferred the next day to Houston, where he died on Monday.
Officials declined to release the name of the hospital but said more details would be provided later today. Texas Department of State Health Services said the boy was 22 months old and Houston officials said he was 23 months old.
The child’s relatives were being monitored and appeared to be healthy, Persse said.

More accurately- death on U.S. soil.
A more accurate headline would be “Another Mexican death from Swine Flu, but this time in Texas”
Absoulutely agree with you. My husband was a government employee and took the shot. I refused to take it as I have had problems with flu shots in the past. I work in a hospital now and I have to tell you, riding the elevators full of people from 3rd world countries hacking their lungs out is more and more becoming an act of faith.
I don't have a supply of Tamiflu, but have been using anti-viral products and carry a supply of hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes with me everywhere. It would be good if everyone else did the same.
And on THAT post ... I gotta FLY OUTTA here for the day!
Y’all have a SUPER day! :)
While this is being reported as a "U.S. death" it is in fact a death of a nearly two-year old child from Mexico, that became ill in Mexico and then came to the US (Texas) before dying from the illness.
While the death of any child is terribly sad, this does not in any way mean that it is time to panic.
Houston!
The Roiturds article only said “Texas”.
The Mourning Spews article said in Houston.
Yes! U.S. soiled. :)
It may have already been noted, but I heard on the radio this morning the kid was from Mexico.
NOW I gotta fly outta here.
“THIS TIME, for SURE!” :)
You’re right.
And Egypt isn’t dumb, aren’t idiots. I simply meant, as you know, that irrelevant actions like slaughtering pigs to stem panic are not only sad, they won’t stem the panic.
Accurate and rapid dissemination of information, and strong and SANE leadership are what help minimize panic. (Think of the difference between Guiliani after 9-11 vs. Gov. Blanco after Katrina. — and no, I’m not trying to start a debate on the merits of Guilani.)
We have enough FREE loaders in the United States who are LEGAL. We don't need to import any more (and especially those carrying a deadly flu virus)! I happen to care more about my family's well being and I apologize to no one for that!
“It sure did not take long for the usual group to start dancing on a dead Mexican baby....such behavior shames FR”
I normally don’t like to slap down fellow freepers, but your sanctimonious post is beyond the pale and not warranted here. No one is ‘celebrating or dancing on dead Mexican babies’. You owe this thread an apology.
Which is exactly what I have been saying in my posts. Both ends of the spectrum are dangerous (ignorance and/or cavalier attitude, and panic).
It is 293 miles from Brownsville to Houston - why did they go all that distance to treat a sick child? There are hospitals in Brownsville and McAllen.
We wouldn't want the public to be informed of such things.
Sad news. I join in prayer for the loved ones!
