followed by the question of why Americans are not dying from it, but Mexicans are.
Nobody will tell us WHICH Mexicans are dying from it.
Are they the campesinos, the Mongolians who came across the Bering Strait, down the West Coast and settled high in the mexican mountains, who have never interbred with the Spaniards/other Europeans since the 1500s?
Or is it the Mestisos, the part campesino, part european?
Certainly it is not the pure Europas doing the dying.

Hulka, sure do hope that your son will be ok. Used to live in Fairfax County and had heard from relatives still there about the TB problem.

I thought this was contagious. Obviously the recycled air on the plane made it safe to let the others in./s I hope they were heading directly for a visit to the WH and the Capitol.

Figures...
They'll be coming here and over staying their Visa's just to permanently get away from the mess in Mexico City, which is exactly why we need to stop all flights from Mexico into this country for awhile.

This incident is reminding me of an old 1970s movie called The Cassandra Crossing. In it, some people on a train show symptoms of bubonic plague while traveling in Europe. Authorities stop the train, seal all the windows, and then send it on a different route that has a rickety old bridge, with the intent of having all the passengers die from the collapse of the old bridge. In the end, the strain of plague turns out to be easily-defeated, and only about half of the train goes into the drink.

How were they able to determine that the person on the plane with flu symptoms didn’t have H1N1? My understanding from our local news here in Orlando is that it takes a couple of days to get the test results back. At least that is what they are saying about the 3 possible cases here.....

It seems to be having a higher death rate in Mexico than it does here, although its not striking slum dwellers in Mexico, but healthy, prosperous people such as the head of the Anthropology Museum.I suspect that the slum dwellers live in a filthy environment, so their immune system is already "rough and ready" from the abundance of pathogens. The "healthy" people are cleaner, and their immune systems are probably more passive as a result. JMO.

Does anyone here find it odd that the Government will prevent an aircrafts passengers from disembarking the plane for a suspected case of Swine Flue?,while that same government will allow carriers of HIV to wander around the country spreading the virus through unprotected sex.Placing the health of populace in jeopardy

Hulka, did the “authorities” do anything to protect your son or test him? Or is this just being treated like any other flu and act like it was no big deal that he was exposed to the virus?

IIrc, the FDA just approved a new swab test for the H1 variants which gives results in an hour or so. The old swab tests took about 4 hours. A full test to see what type of flu it is, rather than just a screening test, takes longer.

What happens if you are a Muslim and you come down with swine flu?You lobby the government to call it the "Overseas Contingency Pathogen."
