WASHINGTON (CNN) Sen. Olympia Snowe one of the three moderate Republicans including Arlen Specter who supported President Obama's stimulus package told CNN Tuesday that she has also been approached many times about becoming a Democrat, but that it hasn't happened for a while.
"I've been asked, but not recently," she said.
Snowe said the Republican Party never learned its lesson from the "painful" party switch of Sen. Jim Jeffords in 2001.

And a swim??
SWITCH B!TCH!!!!
Are you implying that Romney is *not* a "true Republican," i.e., a conservative? ;-)
A get out of jail free card of course...as required by ALL elected Democrats.
It only matters in the sense that the media and the DNC will snowball the story into a GOP-bleed story.
At least the diving part.
“Go! Just go!!!! Let us get some real Rs in there.”
You will get communists.
It is “devastating” to Snowe and the other moderate extortioninsts who would sell their swings votes.
She is no longer needed. The Dems have 60. She is devastated.
Romney couldn’t win today.New England is moving...quite quickly....very,very much to the left.
I dunno about anyone else but I've about had it with these condescending RINO prigs.
Do yourself a favor, Snowe - leave us intolerant hillbillies to ourselves and cross the aisle where tolerance rules.
Deval Patrick, at last count, had a 67% disapproval rating.
That comment really got under my skin. Moderates think that those who don’t hug the center are the GOP’s biggest problem.
True enough. But I hope you don't think that that means that his Republican opponent will get more that 33% of the vote here.
Hey,I can understand why folks not from around here don't understand.New England, like NYC...CA and DC,are magnets for the slimiest filthiest most amoral people in the country.
Oh,I could go on....but I know it's futile.You guys just have to trust me.This region is lost...lost....LOST.
GOP may be in position to pick up the pieces in 2014/2016 cycles. For three cycles (2012/14/16) the Dems will have to defend all their gains from 2006-2010 (and I think they will go to 64-65 seats in 2010).
By that time, it will either be a lost decade, Japan style, or Carter-style stagflation, and after 6 years or Dem rule, blaming it on Bush will not work well. But I will not hope for any GOP rebound before 2014.
The experience of Tories in the UK shows that it is possible to spend 10+ years in the wilderness. Then it is important to be alert and in decent enough shape to pick up the pieces when the ruling party falls apart.
67% disapproval is a stunning number not to be dismissed.
Yes,in most parts of the country it would be something not to be dismissed. But Massachusetts isn't like any other place in the country. You have to trust me on this.
The *worst* case scenario for Coupe Deval is that he'll be given a post in the Hussein Administration before the next election and some other equally filthy and amoral RAT will get the nomination and win with 67% of the vote.
Very true. Most of the time the end of the line is when they run out of other people's money. Well, we are already, or just about there. Eventually the house of cards will fall. I believe it's all being held together with 'duct tape and a prayer' right now as we speak.
He'll still be re-elected.
