California declares swine flu emergency
AFP ^ | April 28, 2009

Posted on 04/28/2009 1:07:11 PM PDT by Pete

California declared a state of emergency to tackle the swine flu outbreak on Tuesday as authorities said they were investigating two deaths in Los Angeles for possible links to the disease. A statement from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's office said that while there was "no need for alarm," the emergency declaration was necessary to help limit the spread of swine flu. "While there is no need for alarm, it is the Governor's top priority to limit the swine flu's spread as quickly and effectively as possible ...," the statement said. The declaration came as authorities in Los Angeles confirmed they were probing the recent deaths of two men who had exhibited flu-like symptoms shortly before dying at hospitals in the area. One case involved a 33-year-old man who died on Monday at a hospital in the suburb of Bellflower. The second case concerned a 45-year-old who died on April 22 at another hospital. Los Angeles County Coroner's office spokesman Ed Winter said tests were being carried out on both men to determine if swine flu was involved. If confirmed they would be the first US fatalities from swine flu, which is believed to have killed 152 people in Mexico and sickened thousands more. California officials on Monday confirmed 11 cases across the state, although none have been reported in Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States with slightly more than 10 million residents. However Los Angeles health officials said they were fully expecting an outbreak in the region. "It's here -- just a matter of time," said Laurene Mascola, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's Acute Communicable Disease Control.

Why can’t they just say whether the guys are illegals or came from Mexico recently? Because that’s probably what they are.

the emergency declaration was necessary to help limit the spread of swine flu.

Why? Is the virus afraid of 'emergency declarations'?

The Governator should close the theme parks, really he should. Imagine tourists from all over the US coming to one central location, thousands and thousands all waiting in lines, in close quarters in confined places, eating from the same food vendors.

I’m staying away from Walmart’s for the forseeable future.
Too many customers speaking Spanish in there.

(No, I’m not a racist...just being prudent.)

The economic hit we are about to take is going to be big, with summer blockbusters that the studios bank on to make money, concerts, ammusement parks, summer vacations, AAA ball games, so on, once they start closing an large gatherings the cost are going to hit hard.

Plus side for ‘Zero’ maybe no more ‘Tea Parties’ to have to deal with.

They will never do that. No matter how many people die! It's not ‘’politically correct’’!And they don't want to hurt peoples feelings!

I thought only Mexicans were dying of this in Mexico? lol...

Here is just one of the entery points, jammed with vehicles coming into the U.S. These entry points are jammed 24/7 with vehicles.

I'm told by many people that shutting these points down, won't do any good. It's too late for that I'm told, and millions of other entering daily really won't make any difference....

I kid you not.

It won’t make any difference in a pandemic. Not only is it already here, but you’d have to shut down every airport to every flight from any other country, every port to every incoming ship, and still stop illegal immigration, besides.

And you’d have to deny entry to every American currently outside of the country.
