He turned his back on those of us who voted him time and again, and prayed for his recovery when he was ill, and voted for the stimulis package. He burnt his bridge right there, thinking he could offset it with his vote on Card Check. He did this one too many times.

He is well aware that he was not going to win on the Republican ticket this time, so there is no surprise here.

He didn’t turn his back on those that voted for him. Some Democrats and Independents did. The GOP is a small minority party in PA in comparison to the sum of Independents and Democrats. He represents them, too.

Toomey has cost the GOP a seat. That’s a vote for who is Majority Leader and therefore who determines the agenda.

He will be humiliated and destroyed in next year’s election, just as another right wing extremist, Rick Santorum, was.

Unintended consequences rears its ugly head.

Everyone has been ecstatic over Toomey’s numbers against Specter, but Specter just pulled a fast one.

It’s quite possible the democrats will let him run uncontested, in which case he would be the incumbent democrat in the seat, and Toomey would have a hard time defeating him.

So then we end up with Specter still in the Senate, but even worse, providing the vote which will make filibusters impossible for the GOP.

THIS should explain to everyone why President Bush went ahead and backed him.
